With the greatest respect, I'd suggest getting someone with a technical background to have a look at it. Definitely something infecting the installation which is preventing system restore, and all those pop-ups you mention are a result of installing plug-ins and software without due consideration. Do you have the Windows 8 disc? If so you should reboot with the disk installed, hold down F8 just before the windows logo appears and boot from the disc. Follow the recovery options and try and do a system restore from there. It's possible whatever is infecting your PC has disabled restore AND deleted any saved check points, in which case you'll need someone to do a thorough clean for you.

we didnt get a disk it was all done online which is why l wondering if something nasty came down with it, lve took it back to pc world and now got to wait 12 to 28 days to get it back, when l told them what had happened he said you might need a new hard drive installing and that it could be faulty, l will come back and let you know what happens

    What a load...

Also, can't see them reinstalling Windows 8. At best they will restore Windows 7 and you will lose all of your stored data.
Someone will point you towards the Windows 8 disc in due course.
Make and model number of laptop?

Completely agree. Number 1 response from all PC World staff and is utter nonsense.

Let's wait to see what they do with the laptop. We'll get you the disc to go with your Windows 8 Product key if necessary.

talk about quick service, took the laptop in yesterday, two oclock this afternoon techie guy calls says a virus has wiped the harddrive says it will take two hours to sought out and by five oclock picked up the laptop, strange when yesterday they said it would have to be sent away and would take up to 28 days, it never even left the premises, lve still got the key for windows 8 but would it allow me to download it again and to be honest lm not sure l want to after this, what sought of virus can cause that damage?
