Sky TV - Unwanted calls from Domestic & General

I was one of the many who joined up to Sky through the excellent MSE 50% off discount a couple of months ago. Just a warning to others, despite setting my marketing preferences to no calls, no letters, no emails, last night I had a phone call from Domestic & General trying to sell me a product called Sky Protect. They knew my name and when I had Sky installed so clearly Sky have given them my details, despite my preferences and being on the TPS list. Very annoyed. Chatted with Sky online and they went into my account and tell me I'll get no further calls. On a second issue, I understand all my Sky equipment is covered for 12 months from installation, which again makes me wonder why D&G are trying to sell me insurance after 2 months.

Because a lot of very gullible people are happy to pay for the same (unnecessary) cover again...
TPS does not cover companies with which you already have a trading relationship, which would include D&G as 'official' Sky partners. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
The TPS is just another database, which if not already sold to outside companies, will eventually be. I believe they all work together, as you can clearly see from the TPS website before registering what you want TPS to stop for you, pretty much permitting the rest of the options for them to sell on your details to other 3rd parties.
They will have a database, with different categories... Your name and details will go onto the remaining 5 categories and excluded from the one you selected from the drop down menu on initial registration that you don't want and wish to stop... Sure, you wont get those specific calls however you will indeed be wide open on a database under 5 different categories for 3rd parties to exploit, and who will then have your information to call you anyway, so it doesn't work0 -
Had a similar call myself. Very annoying when they ignore your clearly stated preferences.0

Just buy a call blocker. That way they'll only get through to you once. Or, if you look up the numbers of persistent offenders, you can block them in advance.0

Regarding the comments above about the value of a Sky Protect warranty, the following information may be helpful.
If a customer purchases a Sky Protect warranty within the 1 year manufacturer's guarantee period, then the Sky Protect warranty will only begin at the end of that year. ie: you are effectively pre-paying for the annual warranty at the start of the second year of ownership. Of course, you will only pay 12 instalments, irrespective of when your purchase it.
Secondly, the manufacturer's warranty does not include accidental damage, whereas the Sky Protect warranty does. So if the customer buys the Sky Protect plan after two months of ownership, then they will be covered for accidental damage for the duration of the manufacturers guarantee as well.
In summary therefore, they will have 22 months accidental damage cover as well as the 1 year's full extended warranty also covering breakdown, which will begins after the Manufacturer's Guarantee expires.
I hope this clarifies the situation for you.
Also, if you contact me on customerhelp@domesticandgeneral.com with your phone number and name and postcode then we can make sure you don't get called again.
Thank you

My sky box sits on the sideboard and is operated via remote. Virtually impossible to accidentally damage it. Oh yea I forgot I play indoor football in my living room, maybe I do need this cover !YNWA

And of course, a meteorite could always hit the dish and misalign it.

the manufacturer's warranty does not include accidental damage, whereas the Sky Protect warranty does.

Pretty sure SKY would rather Fix a box for free than loose a customer paying £1000 a year, complete waste of money and a con if you ask me also had the nuisance phone call myself.
£120 a year more than my entire contents insurance!0
