Up To £10,000 if your TV stops working because of 4G Interference!

Mobile phone operators fund £180 million scheme to help viewers affected by interference.

Homes that lose their television signal thanks to interference from the 4G mobile network will receive up to £10,000 each to be reconnected.

It is thought that around 950,000 homes will suffer interference ranging from image distortion to the total loss of some channels as superfast broadband is rolled out.

Interference from the 4G signal is likely to be so severe for families living close to the base stations that filters distributed to homes will not be able to block the signal.

The OP has quoted well out of context for effect, missing some salient points.

    Indeed.
From the same article the OP linked to:
The government has promised filters to homes in the affected areas that will block the 4G signal or £50 towards a professional refit, which will be paid for from the £180 million pool provided by mobile companies.

  • Still doesn't compensate those who may have a yearly contract with their TV provider, or more importantly their property price in an area effected if they can't get develop a fix. Not everyone is going to part with freeview especially since most modern TV's have it built in. They should never have launched 4G operating under the same frequency band as TV. What did they think was going to happen?

They would still be better using the £180 million to develop a filtering system or offering new development for the 4G network, or just paying for people to have Freesat Satellites on their homes, but then again, some may not like the look of a dish on their house IE: older home owners
  • I didn't read the article, but I didn't mean direct frequency, I meant "frequency band" as in range, which would cause interference.

At work, we have radars specifically set to CHIRP at between a range of frequency's (say 500-675 kHz) but when we use equipment that operates under a 725 kHz signal, there is some interference although they don't share the exact frequency. We have clients who do not like to use some equipment together despite the company I work for spending millions in developing software fixes to try and stablize the image

This just appears like they haven't thought everything through. They've messed up, and £10,000 compensation may be a fraction of the damage it may cause
