New phones and SMS delivery reports

I recently upgraded my phone and contract with Orange. I went for the Xperia S and I love it. But there is a 'problem' with SMS delivery reports.

On Orange, they do not offer the facility to recieve the reports but they still charge you 0.8p per report. I know it is not that much but if you are like me and you text alot, then it can add up.

As i didnt recieve any reports, when my bill came in i had accrued about £5 of charges. I contacted Orange who told me they didnt offer the service and that it was the phone that dictated whether to recieve the reports.

I was confused because I know I didnt set anything. So I went through all the settings on my and there it was, an option it the messaging settings. A tick box next to "delivery reports" and it was checked.

I couldnt believe it. It was defaulted to reports on. I was still on chat with Orange and luckily they decided to credit me the ammount for the reports. Very nice of them to do so.

I assumed it was just random glitch or something and forgot about it. But when my mum upgrade her phone to the Xperia U, I have just noticed that it also has reports on as default.

I dont know whether this is just a Sony default or whether it is as standard now, but I would warn anyone with a new phone to check the settings on their new phones so they dont have the same issue

I like you have an xperia s. Mine is on O2 and it is certainly defaulted to off.
