  • Ok so my plan so far:

    1) Fill out forms
    2) Open Co-op cashminder account
    3) Get all payments, dds, s/os set up for this account
    4) Get £700 ( eek!)
    5) hand in forms and payment
    6) await interview - take in water, tissues for the crying, paper bag for panic attacks, and a book for the waiting room
    7) Have a mini breakdown in the car outside

    Is that about it?
    VR repayment  £404  £156.02 PAID
    Airpods repayment £249 £185 £75.90 PAID
    Airpods repayment £144 £99.01 PAID

    Capital One £1400
  • oooh, another question ( sorry)

How hard is it to keep out of debt? I know I never ever want to repeat the last few years of my life. EVER. But I know someone who went bankrupt a few years ago and has rebuilt more debt now.

I have put a marker on my credit file to say bi-polar do not lend. So I am hoping this will stop any future lending in the future.

I have read tons of stuff on MSE and feel that I have the right tool kit to approach life. Now I am aware of my spending habits and the overspending and gambling, I am 99% sure I can do this. I have self excluded myself from all gambling sites and lotteries. I have spoken with a helpline and read gamcare forums.

My plan is to frame any bankruptcy paperwork as a reminder every day that I got this deep. I am hoping to continue with a counsellor for the long term and obviously MSE will be a daily source of information.

Anyone got any tips? Or any diaries they could recommend of others in similar situations?

How hard is it to keep out of debt? I know I never ever want to repeat the last few years of my life. EVER. But I know someone who went bankrupt a few years ago and has rebuilt more debt now. oddly a lot easier after BR, lending is very restricted for a number of years anyway, even with a good "credit score" borrowing is so much more difficult, the main thing is to try to save and becoming a budgeting guru/bore!

I have put a marker on my credit file to say bi-polar do not lend. So I am hoping this will stop any future lending in the future.

My plan is to frame any bankruptcy paperwork as a reminder every day that I got this deep. I am hoping to continue with a counsellor for the long term and obviously MSE will be a daily source of information. spot on, when you say counsellor do you mean debt or for other things, personally have had a counselling for nearly two years, it has been a lifesaver to be able just to talk to a non judgemental, professional and lovely person once a month, everyone should have one!

Anyone got any tips? Or any diaries they could recommend of others in similar situations?

You have it covered pretty well, don't be afraid to treat yourself sometimes though, save a little for a rainy day and if someone you know or a stranger looks like they need a hug, give it, you might get some funny looks but everyone needs a hug sometime...

  • I overspend on cheap stuff from £1 shop and 99p shop, Ebay etc.. Oddly it fulfills the spending frenzy and my (ir)rational thinking was that it was all bargains. Obviously not really right.

I am just hoping that I can stay on the straight and narrow. I havent had any savings for 5 years or more, not even £50, so I think that might be a great idea and a focus for me tiggerbodhi - if I plan a trip to Eurodisney or something in 3 years time, I could save all the extra money for that. Or buy a nice car that isnt held together with cable ties.

I think that would work for me. And we havent had a holiday for years

Just to say sometimes it takes a while to get the bumf back from Co-op, once you've been in and applied for the Cashminder account. It can take about 2 weeks, and until then I'm not sure you are told your bank account number at least I don't think I was. So if you are going BR before that 2 weeks when the stuff arrives, try and make sure you can access any income. It varies how long it takes for the OR to tell your current bank and the bank deciding to freeze your accounts, but it might be possible to withdraw your income after BR for a short while but don't bank on it. It's better to open the Cashminder asap really to get things going.

  • Right, mission to save £700.

    Guaranteed:

    1) £50 from ex - will receive tomorrow

    2) £20 from ex - will receive Sunday

    3) £20 from friend who owes me money - will receive Monday

    4) £200 from child benefit - 11th December

    5) £200 maintenance from ex - 30th November

Thats £490. Need to raise £210.

I have some vending machines to sell that might raise £150. Car boot might raise £30. Thats a possible total of £670.

Maintenance from ex should be £250 but he doesnt always pay the extra week, so I havent banked on that. If he does, I have the full amount. If he doesnt then I have £30 to find.

Not sure what else I can do. I dont have anything to sell - possibly the tumble dryer ( £20), exercise bike and stepper (£20), no DVDs or books or games consoles, or gadgets or savings or shares.......

I have contacted tenant support and no charitable trusts to help with fees.

Right, I have £5 in my purse. Thats a starter ..

    TOTAL £5
    TO FIND £695

    I can do it :)
