Tips for post bankruptcy.

Thought it might be nice if some of us regular bods were to give our tips for life post bankruptcy to those who are about to go or were about to go bankrupt.

1. Join Freecycle www.freecycle.org . For those that don't know about Freecycle then you join your local groups and you express your interest in an item, if you are chosen then you go and pick the item up for free. One tip for freecycle though is when you join set your emails for the daily digest only or you will be inundated with stuff you don't want.

2. Join your local Credit Union http://www.abcul.org/page/index.cfm

3. Find your way around this site. Make it your special friend. Maybe try some of the challenges on DFW. Have fun with all the tips on the Oldstyle board. Don't forget the Freebies boards. I am sure some of the regulars have their own favorite boards as well.

4. Sign up to Quidco and Topcashback.

Anyone else want to add their tips?

Insert your postcode and it brings up everything on ebay within a particular distance from you. Better bargins for those big collection items that are nearby. (If freecycle doesn't work).

Second Quidco. Best thing since sliced bread.

As above really, but the one place I would really recommend is the Up your income bit of this site.
    Also https://www.mysupermarket.co.uk
  • Takes time but Amazon.marketplace works for selling unwanted CDs, books etc. Bit timely if you have a lot to sell and you arent going to make a fortune.

Thanks for bumping this thread up...

If you haven't already - and it's amazing how many people haven't - learn to cook. Meals made from scratch are way cheaper than anything pre-prepared, and usually tastier. Turkish/Indian/Chinese stores are brilliant for huge sacks of rice and pulses.

Look after both your physical and mental health. Most people prior to bankruptcy let themselves get run down or ill to one degree or another. Once you are bankrupt, you no longer need to worry about your creditors. Make it a plan to eat well, sleep well and exercise.

The only piece of sound advice we can offer is to be totally straight with your Official receiver as this may be your only chance to stop looking over your shoulder or worrying what the next post will bring or even every knock at the door. there is every chance that you will be discharged early if you are completely honest. My OH went BR in November 2008 and after the initial scaryness of it all, it is the best thing we ever did.
Keep your chins up (in my case!!) and remember that is always a light at the end of the tunnel.;)
:j If playing is just for fun....why keep score?
  • Many thanks to the OP for this enlightening post....when did you do the deed tigerfeet?
