opened up an ''instant axis'' account from Co-op last night..spoke to one of their training people too.....
he admitted a rather dismal 0.5% rate, but he thought it would be better than a Cashminder....[I have two of them already]...
I told him I was ex-BR, which didn't phase him one bit...but he did add that he expected the application would be refused, but sent for further assessment by another team.
This appears to be normal policy at Co-op....he added that, [BR's had an inherent right to a savings account, and Co-op recognised this.
Much amusement when he felt compelled to inform me that Co-op would have a search recorded wit the CRA's..and that this might impact on other future searches.....credit scores, etc.....all of which was probably pointless given my existing credit scores......?
Whilst I also have a Post Orrifice online savings account,I have found them to be somewhat slow when transferring sums in and out....plus, the account is actually with the Irish Bank...and they are currently re-newing their begging bowls seeking billions in extra funding as they're a bit on their uppers.......
I may be over-reacting, but I emptied my account...more or less, once I discovered the above little snippet of info....just in case....
The Co-op account will be more useful to me anyway, having online access and instant transfer abilities...
not long now and I qualify for an extra few hundred quid off the government come wintertime...handily, just in time for Xmas......damned if I'm gonna get on me moral hi-horse and refuse it...No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......0 -
Another bump for a worthwhile thread

hi...just wanted to add to my other post..
Have recently done the calculations for things like travel passes and heating allowances.
It appear the Government are truly trying to renege on their promises regarding payments...
On face value, reaching 60 seems full of joys..... until you do the govt's calculations.
More like, unless your birthday falls in the January of the previous year...one has to actually wait nearly 18 months before one qualifies......
Effectively [same with ladies' pension] they have literally moved the goal posts, swindling millions out of benefits which are rightfully theirs, by moving qualifying dates further and further back.
In a few years time, those of you thinking you'll be getting state pension will find you've got to keep working another two years.....[keeping younger people out of a job]......probably longer if your birthday falls the wrong side of the qualifying date?
Talk about cutting by the back door?
Country cannot afford it?
rubbish...just stop buying all those fancy military bits and bobs which don't/wont work properly anyway, so will cost more to put right. No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......0 -
I think the biggest thing for us is that although we have to budget and save and can't always give the kids what they want or do perhaps as much as their friends do we feel in control which to us is important, this was something we lost in a spiral of debt which also leads to health issues and relationship issues.
That's got to be good for the kids too though, learning they can't always have what they want when they want it. Teach them to budget and save with their pocket money and hope they never abuse a credit card once old enough!
My best memories of my childhood have nothing to do with money. They are times spent with my dad, either on the allotment, helping him deliver post on the cycle delivery or just walking in the countryside.
I also wanted to add on the budgeting side that I have been using Microsoft Money for some years now. You can forecast as far ahead as you want with regular payments, to see what money you actually have in your account. There's a budget section and loads of customisable reports to see what you receive and spend. You can even set payments to automatically enter your account up to 30 days before due, so no more copying and pasting as in a spreadsheet. OK, so Microsoft have stopped producing the product, but it's still available on eBay and the more recent versions from about 2003 onwards even work on Windows 7!When I joined, I needed a name. The forum members gave one to me...I am INAN
