Hi Locana. I'm in the same boat as yourself. I took my 2 children abroad last year and we went on a coach. OK so it took us 23 hours to get there but it was cheap. Have booked again this year. My DS is 13 and classed as an adult so 2 adults and 1 child plus insurance 17 days, 14 nights HB in Spain with insurance has cost me £764.....

Have always flown and was really apprehensive about going on a coach but it was really good, plenty of videos to watch and lots of toilet breaks.

My problem is that I am one adult and one child, and is causing me grief! I dont think I we can wait until she is 13!!

Have you priced up going by Coach. I know when your a single adult and only one child and you go self-catering it costs an absolute fortune as you usually have to pay for full occupancy in a room. If however you go half board it works out more economical

Where can I look for half board accomodation?

I booked with a company called Ferris, but they are based in South Wales near my home. I do believe they pick up across the country and they do have a website, just search Ferris Holidays. The only other company I know about are Club Cantabrica. They also go to France and Italy. I priced a self-catering chalet with them in France but it was about £1300.

How old is your child? Would they be OK on a long journey (saying that my 2 slept all night, I just took a couple of small pillows and a cheap Ikea throw for them as it gets quite chilly during the night.

Ferris Holidays also allow you to Cruise and stay. With that deal you travel overnight on the Ferry and have a Cabin. SOunds great but I'm not a great traveller on the Ferry !!!!

As I mentioned before, contact Gingerbread, an excellent Single Parent Organisation that assists and advises on companies that specialise. I went on a holiday organised via their advice with my mum about 16 years ago!

Have you tried pricing regular holidays going as two adults?

When I was a single parent, it was cheaper taking my boys away as a group of adults rather than pay child fares.
Here I go again on my own....
