Blocking a number

Options
Hi,

I have a new Samsung Galaxy and there is someone I want to block from calling me. I know the option is available to do that on the phone, but what I want to know is what happens once I've blocked them when they ring? Do they get an engaged tone? does it say call cannot be connected? does it go to voicemail? Do I still get the text that says u had a missed call from this number? etc. Also can you block texts too?

sorry for all the questions. thanks for any replies.

No idea. Why don't you block the number of a friend temporarily and ask them to tell you what happens?

I'd guess that it serves as a divert to voicemail or 'answers' the call, plays an engaged tone and then cuts off the call.

I think normally the calls are rejected, although I can imagine that some other apps can offer other options like
    - pick up + hang up,
    - not picking up (silently)

I believe it simply ignores the call - if you have Voicemail, it will go to that. If not it will ring until the natural timeout, but not show as an incoming call.

If I add a number to the blacklist in my phone (android 2.3.7, cyanogenmod) the call goes instantly to Orange answerphone, then shows as a missed call in the call history with the corresponding notification.

Yes, there are ways to block a number in most mobile phones.....

Can I ask if you have all your contacts stored to SIM or phone??? let's say for a moment all your contacts are stored to SIM (The desired option should you need to take your SIM out to put in another mobile)

    1) A number that is calling you all the time, or a nuisance number simply save the number in your phone. Yes "save" it. Call it something like "Z Barred" so it sits at the end of your phone book. Any additional numbers can be stored as Z Barred 2, 3, 4 and so on.

    2) Save them to "Phone" (not SIM)

    3) Go onto the stored contact titled "Z Barred" or whatever you named it, and edit contact, then simply "block caller"/"Block number".. There is an option to to this, but only for STORED numbers, which is why you must store it.

Furthermore, what you can do depending on the mobile is you can actually go into settings of the phonebook on your mobile and filter view the phonebook. This means that you can de-select the "Phonebook contacts" and have your phone book only displaying SIM contacts (your own contacts) which is good if you have a huge list off 50 barred numbers dominating your mobile phonebook

I have all my family, friends and co-workers stored to SIM, and all these annoying marketing numbers stored to Phone. However, because I've selected my phonebook to only show SIM contacts, I can flick through my phonebook without a load of crappy marketing numbers to go through as well

I just have one name called ignore with about 20 numbers associated with it. I then select the button send straight to voicemail. Does the trick for me.
