Three cars and a baby (Aygo/C1/107)

The 107 comes in 3 or 5 door, be careful as to which you get. Yellow pugs only seem to have 3 doors.
I have a 107, it's nippy but so slow uphill. I imagine it would be ok for a small family. It is cheap to run though and is low emission and fuel efficient too
I agree with this, apart from they do do 5 door yellow Pugs, but they are rare to come by.
I have a 107 too, in fact it's my 2nd one, as I upgraded from a 3dr to 5dr. It's handy for me, DH and the dog. I can get a full load of shopping in the boot (provided DH packs it right) and you can't go wrong with £20 a year R/T, cheap insurance, and £40 to fill up (although when I first got mine it cost £25 to fill up - sign of the times)
BTW it's true that Aygo/107 & C1 are 95% the same car, they are all made in the same factory and it's the interior and body work that is the difference and the price.
C1's are the cheapest, but they are only manual (unless it's changed) 107's come also in semi auto as do Aygo's, but you can be looking at a £2000 price difference because 1 has a Toyota badge.
Can't knock my little Pug though, it's spot onBEST EVER WINS WON IN ORDER (so far) = Sony Camcorder, 32" lcd telly, micro ipod hifi, Ipod Nano, Playstation 3, Andrex Jackpup, Holiday to USA, nintendo wii, Liverpool vs Everton tickets, £250 Reward Your thirst, £500 Pepsi, p&o rotterdam trip, perfume hamper, Dr Who stamp set, steam cleaner.
comping = nowt more thrillin' than winnin':T :j0 -
Have a look at the new Peugeot 208. I'm getting a new car soon and saw this whilst at the local dealership. It looks like a lovely car, although I haven't had one for a test drive yet.0

Nthing the Yaris suggestion, bought mine (08 Diesel) with the aims of being economical on the commute (65 mile round trip/day) and big enough to be practical for a baby or two. haven't got round to testing out the second part, but it's a fantastic car and i absolutely love driving it, and i'm like you, reliable and economic is all i care about. Tax is 30/year and i get around 63mpg average. Had her 18 months and not a single thing wrong so farLittle Lowe born January 2014 at 36+6

If you travel any sorts of distance I'd not recommend a C1/Aygo/107 as a primary vehicle.
Yes you probably can get the bits in you need some of the time but you'll be amazed at the amount of stuff you have to haul around if you are going anywhere for more than 24 hours.
I'd also be wary of using that class of vehicle on the motorway on a regular occurrence.
They can just about cope with it but the lack of power on long hills might not bother you but it can be dangerous.
For the cost difference i wouldn't be looking at anything smaller than a Polo sized car.
The Panda, Fiesta, Pug 208 are probably at the level I'd be looking at as a minimum.0 -
Since I've seen others mention different cars & that you're open to suggestions ..... have you looked at the Hyundai I10?
Brilliant reviews & great spec even on the base models http://www.whatcar.com/car-reviews/hyundai/i10-hatchback/summary/25771-5/ - cheap to run & a great wee run around car.
I looked at all the ones you've listed and the I10 won hands down - have had one for nearly 3 years now (onto my 2nd - but only changed as I had to move to an automatic!) and still love it!Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)
2016 Sell: £125/£250
£1,000 Emergency Fund Challenge #78 £3.96 / £1,000Vet Fund: £410.93 / £1,000
Debt free & determined to stay that way!0 -
How about a Hyundai i10. I got a brand new one for £6500 so I'm sure there must be some deals out there for 2nd hand.0

Just wanted to add my bit as a 5 door Peugeot 107 owner (from new prior to having a baby- who is now 5!)
I find it more than fine, the isofix is a huge safety bonus in my eyes. The pram I had was a quinny buzz and the chasis with wheels on fitted in the boot standing upright and then the dremi carry cot part was on the front seat. When she got bigger I had a Maclaren stroler which went back flat for baby to sleep and it fitted fully in the boot. I could get some shopping on top.
I mainly drive about town but it has been on a few long journeys and is fine.
The car tax when I first bought was £40 and is now a mere £20.0 -
Boot on a 107 is smaller than a Smart! But I'll second the panda idea & add a colt or Smart forfour

Another vote for a Hyundai i10, the tax on mine (61 plate 1.2) is £20 a year. It's economical, nippy and the new ones come with a 5 year warranty so you could buy one a few years old with plenty of warranty left.
I have two baby seats in the back. The boot is an OK size for a small car and due to the relatively straight tailgate it's much more practical than cars with shaped tailgates eg Fiat 500. The boot easily fits a Petite Star Zia or most umbrealla buggies. Once inside it doesn't 'feel' small at all and the base model has air con and CD which was essential for me where as the base model Picanto has no air con (or at least it didn't when I was looking a year or so ago).0
