just had my computer fixed - new hardrive all seems to be in order but I have a red cross by the speaker icon bottom right hand corner of screen - does that mean its just the speakers that aren't plugged in although I've tried plugging them in and it doesn't seem to be doing anything ??

sounds like its been set to mute, click on the icon and should bring up a box above it and it will probably have a tick in the box next to the mute option if so untick it, otherwise click the bar higher up the scaleDrop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)0 -
when I click on it I get options
playback devices
recording devices and
sounds ??0 -
ok when I click on playback devices it says speakers aren't plugged in ?? but I've tried plugging them in and nothing ??0

as far as I'm aware they're plugged into the right socket ,
how will I know if everything is installed and working in device manager ??
don't suppose you know anything about norton either do you ??0 -
the socket will either be colour coded, or have a picture to denote if it is the output, check the manual if you aren't sure.
you have to look, missing drivers or non-working items should stand out with red crosses/yellow question marks, quite common for things to be missing if a lazy reinstall has be done
check all the sliders are up in the mixer.
yes, it's money you dont need to spend, try avast free

I've reinstalled norton so would really like to carry on with it but have problems with that as well - can see the computer going back to pc world to be sorted out0 -
everything in device manager looks ok0

When the new hard drive was fitted, who was it that reinstalled all of the required software?
If it was a shop or repair facility, the chances are that they would just have reinstalled the operating system and nothing else.
You might have a disk that was supplied when you originally purchased the computer, and it will be something like "drivers and utilities" or you may have a disk for the motherboard. One of these may have the required audio drivers on it.0
