Would you leave a neutral?

More of a vent and wondered if all buyers would leave a neutral in similar circumstances?
I sold a low value fully working item, sent quickly as usual :D They got it within 3 days and messaged me to say it was faulty.

I wasn't going to argue it as was a lowish value item so to keep them sweet i apologised and stated it may have happened in transit. Gave them a full refund inc p&p and told them to keep the item.
All within an hour of them sending the message.

I them got a neutral for my trouble despite the fact that the fb stated i had refunded them quickly for a slight problem.

Just annoyed as what more can a seller do in these situations-I could have made them go to the hassle of returning it.

I wouldn't have left a neutral for that, seems like you've been unlucky and got a grumpy buyer.

Although we dont like to receive them, neautrals really arent that bad. They dont affect your overall rating. Hopefully they havent slated your stars too much if at all.

See it from the buyers view, they've bought and waited for an item which in their opinion is faulty. They now need to start all over again to buy the item and wait again for delivery.

At least they havent left a negative.

I would have left positive. you did everything right.
as mentioned a neutral doesnt affect your feedback rating.

This is a suggestion....you could email buyer and mention politely that you noticed they left neutral. Ask was there anything else you could have done for them to give a positive. Say you always try to do your best and were wondering if you did something wrong. Maybe mention that ebay and paypal ask for buyer to return items at their own cost and that you didn't ask them to return it so that they wouldn't be out of pocket.

You could then also ask if you were to get a feedback revision request sent via ebay would they change to positive. The risk here is they may change it to negative. I have asked politely in the past and the buyer realised i couldn't have done anything more to help them and agreed to change feedback to positive.

Would you leave a neutral? No

But i would have advised you to pack the item more securely to prevent damage in transit, and then thank you for the refund and quick resolution.

No, if I had received an apology and a refund, I would have given a healthy positive - what more could the seller have done?

Neutrals don't change headline feedback, so the damage is insignificant. Low DSRs would be far more damaging.

Frankly, the kind of people who would give a neutral in that scenario are misusing oxygen - be glad you don't live your life as your buyer does! ;)

Thanks for the replies have made me feel better about it as i try my very best to keep my buyers happy and usually bend over backwards to save my fb. Still at 100% and my stars are still fine so i don't think any major damage has been done.
Won't bother with the revision request on this occasion.

The neutral itself may not damage your account too much, but if they felt the need to leave one I would be worried about your star ratings, would they have left them low also?!

To me you completed the transaction how a seller should, and you should have received a positive, ebay is really grating on me at the moment, noone seems to care about the way they speak to you anymore!

Won't bother with the revision request on this occasion.

You are limited to feedback revision requests to 5 per 1000 feedback comments. I'm not sure how many you get if you have less than 1000 feedback. Best to save them for negitaves if you have a smaller number.
  • I've been in this sort of situation as both a buyer and a seller, and of course I left positive feedback for my seller, who had done nothing wrong and could not have predicted that the item would develop a fault in transit. Likewise, I received positive feedback when I refunded a buyer and did not ask for the item back. Is your buyer fairly new to eBay? Some newbies genuinely have no clue how neutral feedback is viewed by other customers and by eBay.
