If you read the reminder it says (in Big Red Capitals) it was correct when printed but if there is a change in the budget a new rate may be payable. So you'll get nowhere trying for the lower rate.

Tax inevitably goes up in Budget so be one step ahead and renew the day before.
Didn't some rates go down in this budget?

I taxed my bike yesterday. The form said £31, but I was charged £32. The actual tax disc also says £31, which the PO woman crossed out and wrote the new price. I`m just glad that I hadn`t gone to the PO with the `correct` money.

Got caught out this year! Had to pay the new rate. Should have got to the post office BEFORE the increase was announced!

Sorry, but you have no chance. The form state sthat you have to pay the rate in force at the time irespective of what it says on the form.

I however am quite smug as I taxed my partners car the night before the budget on line and was charged the old rate.

Unless you are driving a Toyota Prius when the renewal form says £30. When you take it to the post office after the budget, it will have gone down to £15!

I don't get it either!! I just checked out prices online. My car was reistered after 2001 (only 2 yrs old) and it should still only cost £66 as quoted on my renewal fom that just came thrugh the post, yet online they state £68.75. It should only cost £68.75 if the car was regsitered b4 2001. I honestly think there online payment is quoting the wrong prices.

    Nix, welcome to the forums.

You do realise that the last post on this thread was over two years ago, don't you?

I think you need to write to the Government to tell them that their price list is wrong.

Let us know how you get on.

The price is correct when the reminders are sent out. Sods law Mr Darling puts the prices up just before you need to renew,
