Luckily, not ever having had PPI, the OP won't be paying this "friend of a friend" for his time.safestored4 wrote: »I hope that you have been circumspect about giving details of your bank and credit card accounts to this friend of a friend.0 -

Thanks again.
You could have told them that anyway.
And if you wanted to investigate, you could have done that yourself for the £10 SAR fee you will have to stump up to check anyway and saved yourself 25% in the event you discovered you had paid it.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0 -

Hmmm. Well that's funny really. I've actually contacted most of these companies myself before, in order to try and establish *the truth*.
MBNA have categorically told me over the phone that I haven't ever had PPI on any of their products.
So, rather spookily, this 'friend of a friend' (thanks for the warnings of caution but I'm not totally dumb) has just phoned me and said that MBNA have replied and confirmed that a loan I had in 1999 indeed did have PPI attached to it.
So, no money in the bank yet, but for saving me any sort of paperwork, I think that the (potentially) 75% of *something* is a whole lot better than 100% of nothing!
I appreciate it might be cheaper and more cost effective to do DIY but not everyone has that sort of time on their hands.0 -
If they replied to this friend of a friend then you gave them authority to send a SAR, again, a whole ten minutes work that.
They wouldn't have told you this over the phone because they don't search back through your entire history on the phone.
You've spent longer on this forum than it would have taken you to do the above.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0 -
Well I've probably dealt with over 20 different financial institutions over the years, so not exactly ten minutes work, - and that's if you know what you're doing.
Fancy racing me to see who can change a fuse board the quickest?0 -
i had a (classic visa card ) starting 1999, this card was still in use in nov 04.
i have all the statements, and they all say cardholder protection plan on the botton, is this the same as c.p.p
i am still with the same bank to this very day.
i have every bank statement ever sent to me. also on this account i payed a £10 per mth for them to run the account,,but on top of that was Service charges ??????
many thanks in advance

Do you work for a Claims Management Company? I'm beginning to suspect you do.Mark2spark wrote: »I appreciate it might be cheaper and more cost effective to do DIY but not everyone has that sort of time on their hands.
If you now subsequently find that you had "hidden PPI" because of your
"friend-of-a-friend's" investigation, I'll do far more than suspect this to be the case.0 -

No I don't. I'll just stick to the answer given to my OP, thanks very much for that. The thread is now wandering off topic.
I haven't mentioned any companies or promoted any PPI firms.
You could also check the other sections to see my main postings on MSE, totally unrelated to PPI.0
