Santander123 As A Savings Account?

Do they have to be 2 direct debits you have to set up or can they be standing orders instead. I would like to set up this account but as a non home owner don't have any direct debits. What would be the easiest way to set up 2 direct debits to qualify for the account. Any advice welcome
If the savings options aren't for you as per posts above, there are always charities that would be happy to take donations by DD. Also even as a non home owner, don't you have any bills for utilities, mobile phone contracts, etc, that can be paid by DD (and qualify for Santander's cashback)?0 -

Sorry don't have any bills for utilities or mobile phone contracts, car insurance, etc
Thank you for your input though. Considering this, apparently you can make a donation by DD to the conservative Party. Do you think they would action a one off payment for a £1.00 as that is all I would want to contribute to them.0 -
Okay I think I have 2 then. A £1.00 donation to the Conservative party and to set up up a paypal account linked to the Santander 123 just with an active direct debit mandate set up. Anyone confirm that should be sufficient?. Thanks in advance0

Yes
Just make sure you use the Paypal DD at least once a year to keep it 'active'0 -

Things have obviously changed a bit in the past few months then!

Ahrrgh , Trying to catch me out Eskbanker, but without success.
You must either have a very good memory or perhaps you need to get out a bit more if you have time to check posters previous posts.:D.
Yes circumstances have changed, Both Car & home insurance payment were paid perhaps now regrettably by other means. Those direct debits are no longer in place and to be honest didn't anticipate the account still operating it's 3% interest as I expected that to get pulled at any time. But hey ho, It's still there.
Thanks still though for your input.0 -
Not based full time in UK and thinking of opening this account , where you need to "live permanently in the UK"
Any thoughts, are they ever likely to find out / care ??0 -

If they did find out or suspect that you'd misled them you might find it difficult to get the money back. Banks are pretty quick to freeze accounts nowadays.0
