ME is still not 98.
The drivers are designed to work with Xp or Windows 2000 according to their website.
however you could always try it on the 98 pc and if it plays up then yo know for certain it wont work.
Sometimes installers dont work if they detect an OS that isnt supported.
If you can use ethernet then you wont need to load the drivers up, but it depends if Virgin provide a router or not with the broadband.0 -

spoke with a lovely welsh guy and he xplained that it's only a recent thing.so gonna go with dad and have a look @ base units down PCW.0

You really don't have to buy a new PC..
If anything, get a router instead, as it will make your PC more secure, and is far cheaper than a new PC.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
he's gotta upgrade the OS system before they'll install the BB anyway.dad said he'd bin thinking abt upgrading ( the base unit only) since he was bought a new tft monitor for xmas.0

He doesn't have to, but if you want to upgrade anyway, go ahead.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0

I see your dad has a recent monitor - last time I was in PCW it appeared that they were only selling PC/monitor packages. I got my PC from Comet, they have separate base units available.
I agree with all the comments about there not needing anything other than an ethernet port - I recently installed NTL cable to a W2000 PC (I know it's not 98 but it's not XP, either.) No problems with the connection. The cable modem had both ethernet and USB connections.
Does anyone know if Virgin have started to supply a USB only modem?0 -
This suggests that they only support ethernet to me
http://allyours.virginmedia.com/motive/start.html
(NIC) Ethernet only interface support for new customers after the 8 February 2007. Customers connected prior to this date will still be eligible for support. USB support is not available to customers joining after 8 February 2007.
Which would make their claims to the OP incorrect, router or not.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0
