My 10 yo son is a complete bookworm.(I know he is very unusual:D)
I'm running out of ideas for books and would welcome your suggestions.
He has already read
Narnia ( entire series)
Potter ( several times over)
The edge chronicles
The Charlie Bone series
Every single Roahl dhal book (bar the adult ones)
The cherub series
The Alex rider collection
The hitchhikers' guide t the galaxy
Jiggy McCue books
Framed and millions (cottrel Boyce)
Artemis fowl
Ink heart and sequels
Harry and the wrinklies (and sequel)
David Walliams books (can't remember titles)
Most books by Phillip Pullman
And many more classics
He didn't like the goosebumps series, and just tried "Tarka the Otter" but didn't get in it.
I am wondering if 'the lord of the rings' is suitable (never read them myself).
Any suggestions welcome!

Sounds like your lad is ready for something more substantial. Lord of the Rings would be suitable but quite a challenge so start with the Hobbit (which is the prequel anyway). Another saga which may appeal (but again quite a stretch for a 10 yo) is the His Dark Materials trilogy (Northern Lights, Subtle Knife and Amber Spyglass), which is an amazing read. (The film is the Golden Compass, which is the American title for Northern Lights).somewhere between Heaven and Woolworth's0

Lord of the Rings isn't an easy read, but maybe start with the Hobbit?
Edit - great minds pandora!0 -
I would go for Darren Shan.
His books got my ds into reading. His English teacher read the first book in class.
They are not as scary as they look. I love reading them as well.

Have a look for Garth Nix's Mister Monday series.
Also Erin Hunter's Warriors cats are good if he enjoys fantasy fiction involving animals.:)Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

At that age my son read:
The Alex Rider series by Anthony Horowitz
The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy series by Douglas Adams
The Artemis Fowl series by Eoin Colfer
The Discworld series by Terry Pratchett

I read the Lord of the Rings at around that age, and enjoyed it.
Sounds like he's a fan of fantasy, so he might like Garth Nix's Old Kingdom/Abhorsen series.0 -
Also: take him to your local library, get him a card and let him loose! :j[0

There are 'kids' Pratchett books that might be a better start than the discworld books (e.g. Diggers, Truckers)0
