Vodafone - HTC Desire HD to iPhone 3

I have a contract with Vodafone for the HTC Desire HD. Unfortunately several months ago the phone dropped and the screen smashed: friend has taken it to try and fix but I don't think I shall see it back in one piece.

Another friend has given me an iPhone3 and has told me it is unlocked. However when I put my Vodafone sim in the message is that I have to contact the carrier and get a new sim.

What am I asking for from Vodafone when I call them please?

TIA

Generally, I don't see any reasons for this sim not to work in iPhone. I think that there is some fault either with the sim or with the phone. Try cleaning contacts. If the sim works in other phones, try putting some other sim into iPhone to check whether the phone is OK.

iPhone 3 doesn't require a special sim. If you contact Voda just tell them that your sim stopped working and ask for a replecement.
