tesco clubcard exchange big rip off

I thought I would find another post headed this but maybe it is just me so sorry in advance if it is. Was really excited about the exchange as it saved me a packet at Christmas last year. This year everything I look at seems to be unavailable or not in the exchange even though its category is or so limited (wine). Tried to get some denby but its unavailable, tried to get some kids science toys but not available and today I tried to buy a home phone but cant find one that is in the exchange, even if you look on exchange details which clearly says home phones. So is it just me or have they just designed it so that a lot of items are not available thus tempting us with one hand and taking away with another

You are absolutely right - I too am looking to get a new home phone and got zilch when followed the Tesco voucher exchange link. Seems to be a broken link...on purpose??0

I had hoped to buy something from either the electronic area (a radio or headphones) or a phone as I don't have one.
This year the electronics group has shrunken so far its a wonder why they even bothered. And mobile phones? They've all just skyrocketed in price- even though I could still afford a new phone there is no way I would at the prices they are charging! They are around 30% higher then the Carphone Warehouse and they themselves aren't normally the cheapest place to shop!0 -
OP, as you haven't actually spent any money or used any of your clubcard points how on earth can this be a ripoff?
I accept that to you the choice may be limited, but that doesn't apply to everyone. It's silly trying to say that Tesco not having items that you want to buy is a ripoff.
As for the wine, the web site clearly stated that it's only Tesco finest that is in the deal, everything else isn't.
You do have a point about the Home Phones.:)

I take your point, OP, that this 'double exchange' thing seems designed to annoy customers. (As did the last couple.)
Even though it's unlikely that anyone wouldn't be able to make use of the double exchange for anything they wanted by involving family and friends why do Tesco have to make it so damned awkward?
However, you can hardly call it a 'rip-off' as they are merely restricting the choice of something they didn't have to give you anyway. There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -
I wouldn't bother with Tesco Direct. Next time they do this I will only be using my vouchers instore.
I ordered a coffee machine on Monday using vouchers. It took me seven attempts to get the order to go through requesting delivery to my local store. I got confirmation saying it would be there after 4pm on Tuesday. I tried to check at work on Tuesday if the order had arrived but couldn't get on their website so I turned up at Tesco on my way home and it wasn't there. I tried to log on to the website yesterday but once again I couldn't (got a message saying they were busy). I rang up but nobody answered. I've finally managed to log into my account today and the coffee machine is still awaiting despatch!
If you have a Facebook account, check Tesco's Facebook page - there are tons of people awaiting delivery of items. It appears Tesco are just not coping at the moment although why they didn't realise that people might actually want to exchange their vouchers in this promotion and done something about it I don't know.0 -
I recently swapped our vouchers for Tesco Groceries vouchers thinking that this would get me a few brownie points! I thought this would be a good way to get more for the money but I've actually found that it's really difficult to spend them as there are so many restrictions! It's not a rip off 'cause you may just happen to need something that's included but if not you would probably be better not swapping them and using the value on something you actually DO want!0

ok well maybe rip off was not the best phrase to use. It just seems like the choice is very limited. don't remember it being that bad last year. The phone thing hacks me off as does the copious amount of items that are in the exchange that are not available. I do remember last year there was a lot of problems with the site crashing so clearly they cant cope much better this year than they could last :jSmile though your bank is breaking:)0

I collected my brand new pair of glasses from Tesco Huntingdon opticians this morning.
Handed over two vouchers which cost me a little bit of ink and paper to produce from my printer.
Can't see the "rip off" there........0 -
A lot of the toys i looked at were out of stock and/or cheaper on Amazon so in the end I just changed my vouchers to figleaves and gave them to my daughter to spend and got the toys on Amazon. Def seems less choice/availability this year...Light Bulb Moment - 11th Nov 2004 - Debt Free Day - 25th Mar 2011 :j0

If you ever use any of the restaurants included anyway it's far better value exchanging your clubcard points for vouchers for those (4x multiplier). If you use the railways you can get double the points value on RedSpottedHankey.
In each of these cases the 2 or 4 times multiplier yields results that are on a par with cash in hand and a much better idea than dealing with the restricted range of departments and vast exclusion lists at Tesco. There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0
