Hi JoeyDoll, I got one from ebay (although it's a Biube rather than the round one) which was the cheapest I could find it. The cost will depend on whether you want the heater unit (for tropical fish) and which light you choose. I think £86 is very expensive for just the bowl and the halogen light. I paid just under £100 for the biube (which had just come out at the time) and that included the ilight and heater unit.

They have filters in the bottom that need replacing every four-six weeks that cost about £6-7 a time. I really like mine as it looks cool, but they aren't cheap to run and I don't find it any easier to maintain than an normal aquarium.

Also - if you after tropicals they are not recommended for bottom feeders (like clown loaches and plecs) as the ceramic stuff you put in the bottom is a bit sharp for them.

  • Hiya, Pets at home should be a little cheaper than you have seen. £69.99 I think with the halogen. Try ebay and try to get the i-light instead of the halogen. The i-light is fully automatic so once set you don't need to worry about turning it on and off, also phases up and down to replicate normal lighting patterns.

Don't think about putting coldwater fish in there. too small for goldfish. get the heater and get a few small fish. Don't get sucked into buying new cartridges each month, have a look over at a forum I frequent http://www.thornb2b.co.uk/Biorbforum/phpBB2/ who recommend changing the sponge in there less frequently.

    Have fun.

I have 2 biorbs and have found they both require very little maintinence. I change the filters etc probably once every four months rather than the 4-6 weeks celyn does and I have never had a problem. My tank has been running for 4 years now under this system, the water is clean and my tropicals are perfectly healthy.

You can also reuse the filters by washing them out, I have done that in the past if I hadnt got a service pack.

Hi Thanks for all your replys

I have searched a bit more and found some one ebay buy it now
    BabyBiorb 37.50 plus 8.95 p&P (£46.45)
    30ltr with halogen £62.95

Probably the best price on ebay I've found

plliptears - thanks for the advice on washing the filters out - how often can you do that just once do you think?

Consumer Monkey - had a look at petsathome don't seem to be as cheap. What is the difference between the i-light and the halogen? Will look at the link regarding cartridges thanks.

Celyn90 - I don't require a heating unit as it's just for cold fish, will have a look for the biube though - never heard of that one - sounds good!

Ohh the other thing I am wanting to put two small goldfish in does that mean I need to get a certain size? Do you need so many litres per fish - sorry not familar with fish at all - when consumermonkey mentioned not to put goldfish in it got me thinking!!

    Any further help appreciated

@consumermonkey, it's £89 according to the Pets At Home website. They do a 15 litre one for £49.99 if your on a tight budget.

Thanks - can you put two small goldfish in a 15ltr or 30 ltr fish tank?

We have two chubunkins in a 30l orb, they have plenty of room.
I like Charterhouse aquatics, they have bulk packs of service kits, good prices on all the Orb stuff and free postage over £50. I have ordered several items now, always fast delivery.

I don't see why not, although it's a lot of money just for goldfish. There are other coldwater fish you could get, speak to your local aquatic shop for some advice.

This is my tank when I got into plants, I sold it all last year though as the space was needed.

I only do it the once yes, but make sure you rinse it in treated water. I usually take out a jugfull of tank water and wash it in that :)

you can wash out the filters but make sure you don't wash the ceramic material - this is where the good bacteria breed that help to keep the tank clean. We made this mistake and couldn't understand  why we had to clean out the tank several times in as many weeks until our local aquarium specialist told us what the problem was.
