First time moving out of home.... Into London

Hi-
Just an idea: if your work is nr Blackfriars then you could live along the Thameslink train line. e.g. a flat share in Herne Hill perhaps.0 -
Realistically, however, if you want to live somewhere decent, you'll be looking at £500 or so. I have a friend who is looking for a flat at the moment (a houseshare), and she has a budget of £500 a month. This won't get you anywhere great, but if you're working long hours in the City, you don't want to have to travel to a dodgy part of London/flea pit at the end of the night.
That said, I was amazed that Lynzpower is renting a 2 bed house for less than 800pcm!Errors of opinion may be tolerated where reason is left free to combat it. - Jefferson0 -
you asked at your new job?
they may have people wanting to go into sharing or may have a room available even for a month or 2 for you to get to see what it's like and different areas.
what kind of person are you as well?
what are you into, what kind of social life are you after?
no point living somewhere if you like high street coffee shops, if all they have is McDs! lol0 -

I was thinking the same thing - Thameslink travels to plenty of reasonably priced places in South London. Herne Hill is nice, as an example.Errors of opinion may be tolerated where reason is left free to combat it. - Jefferson0 -
ONe thing I remembered when I popped away, is that if yu are new to london, you will have no idea of the postcodes. Ive pinched this from a hotels site, but its a good gude toi wheres where, at least in your early stages of looking through loot and finding ads like "room to rent E2" Ive been here 6 years and I stuill struggle with some parts LOL
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
Barrymoney's suggestion of the Thameslink is a good one & would give you a good choice of locations for living/travelling to work, where rents shouldn't be ridiculously high. See here for the Thameslink map to give you an idea of the area's covered by it or linking to it.http://www.firstcapitalconnect.co.uk/Main.php?sEvent=NetworkMapThe bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -

And it won't take a genius to quickly work out which areas these are.

E1 & E2 can be good value for money as well - dont discount those and you might be lucky enough to be able to walk to work

Reminds me of a trip I took to West Norwood one day when I was flat hunting. I stepped out of the train and immediately spotted a car riddled with bullet holes.
Not good! I'd lived in south London for 2 1/2 years and had no ideal it could be that bad...Errors of opinion may be tolerated where reason is left free to combat it. - Jefferson0 -
You should be able to find a flatshare for around the £400/£450 mark, particularly if you're looking in East & South London. Ask at your new work if anyone is looking for a flatmate, or take the train down for the day and explore a bit. A friend of mine found his flat by looking at a tube map, and gradually exploring the areas further along the line until he found one that suited his needs and budget
https://www.gumtree.com, http://flatshare.timeout.com/ and http://www.movethat.com/ are all good places to look for somewhere to live. Good luck! 2015 comp wins - £370.25
Recent wins: gym class, baby stuff
Thanks to everyone who posts freebies and comps! :j0
