First time moving out of home.... Into London

Hello

I am 20 years of age and have never lived elsewhere accept home,:eek: I have been offered a great opportunity for a job in London and was wondering if anyone could help me with where i would \ how i would start looking for somewhere to rent, the job is in the center of london but i would need to kind of live in the outskirts and travel in..

Any Help would be much appreciated.

Oooh how exciting

First off youll need to determine how much you will be able to afford to pay, per month.

Do you know anyone in london at all , freinds? family? Do you want to live near them? If not and it doesnt bother you where you live you need to
a) work out where your office will be ( nearest tube or train station) then
b) work out what you can afford - dont spend over the odds theres some good deals here -
c) think about HOW youd like to live- on your own? In a shared house so you can meet people?

I'd advise that you look for house-shares online (there are loads of good sites) and in the London edition of Loot. Whereabouts in Central London will you be working? I might be able to suggest some places to live which offer good value for money and an easy commute.

I found my first London house-share in Loot, a cheap room with nice flatmates and a garden, only 20 minutes door to door from Central London - I lived there for over 2 years and to be honest if the place hadn't ended up being sold, i would probably have stayed there right up until I finally managed to afford my own place 5 months ago!

I'm going offline now but will be back at approx 8pm

Yes Loot is great for looking for a place to rent or share. Gumtree is good too.

As Bargain Rzl mentions, a flat or house share would probably be the best choice for you & you shouldn't have too much difficulty in finding something to suit you once you decide which area you prefer to be in.

I was thinking that i would like to speand around 400 ish a month, maybe but i dont know anything about house prices or anything at all as i am new to this..... A bit scary:S

None of my family live in London as i live about 2 and a half hours away from London i could not commute every day either.

The nearest tube station to it is either Farrindon or Blackfriars

Im not sure how i would like to live, i will not know anyone at all in London so it is a big step for me, i would need options to look at i guess..

I would like to look in Loot but i cannot get my hands on any London edition papers as i am loving a way away.

If you have friends already in London, think about a houseshare - that is the most economical way of living in London.

Whereabouts will you be working? If you're in the City, the East End is quite convenient/cheap for many people. If you're working in the West End, have a look at places on the Jubilee Line, or the west end of the central line - all "relatively" reasonable.

I also recommend https://www.spareroom.co.uk, which is excellent for finding a potential house mate.

400pcm isnt uinachievable, ive heard of moneysavers spending that including bills :money:

Do you have time to come to london for a day or so and wander around and see what suits you?

£400 isn't unachievable - it depends how close in you want to be really.

Remember to factor in the cost of travel cards into your monthly budget - (ie, zones 1-3 is quite a bit more than zones 1-2)

I was just thinking of £400 pounds for living with travel expenses on top of that, i am aware how much this is going to cost me but have no clue as I have never done this before!
