Wanting to change name via deed poll.. But just got my passport!

You really don't want the trouble of getting refused entry into a country abroad, or refused onto an aeroplane. Others might have got away with their travel / identity documents not being consistent, but it's quite a risk and it could end up costing you a lot of wasted time and money. It also depends, of course, where you're going. Some countries (and some people) are stricter than others. Like others have said, you're really better off investing £70 in a new passport.

Your travel documents all need to be in the same name, and a deed poll doesn't count — it's not an official identity document and it wouldn't even be recognised abroad, it would be practically useless.

As for your credit cards / bank account being in a different name, ... well it's not illegal, but banks won't really like it, because they are generally trying to prevent fraud. When bank accounts are in a different name to your identity documents, it's often an indication of something fraudulent going on, so you're going to make trouble for yourself unless you also have identity documents in the same name as your bank account.

Take care, as well, that you don't do anything that could be construed as fraud on your own part!

It's really a pain about the passport renewal fee. I'm planning to change my own name by deed poll when my passport comes up for renewal in a couple of years, but ... you've got 10 years to wait I suppose.

Just wondering why you changing your name for? Did you get bullied at school?
