Long story short, I'd like to change my forename and surname via deep poll. Trouble is, I've only just got my passport!.. I understand that they advise you to renew your passport which costs £70.40!!!

Is there anyway that I could carry on using my current passport, and whenever I need to travel, have the deed poll documents with me?

If anyone knows I'd be grateful :)

Edit: I'm not bothered if my passport is in my birth name

Having the deed poll documents with you when you travel won't help you at all. The names on your tickets and passport MUST match, so you will have to book tickets in the name on your passport, not on the deed poll.

So I will only be required to renew my passport IF i want my new name shown on it?

You can change your name by Deed Poll to anything you like and use that on a day to day basis. If you don't want to pay out again for another passport in your new name, you don't have to, but when you book any flights you MUST book them in the name that is on your passport or they won't allow you to fly.

If you're happy to travel in your old name and you won't need it for ID, yes.

Would it cause an issue if my bank cards are issued in my new name?

Oh, forgot how useful a passport is for ID... Okay maybe I'll have to bite the bullet and pay for a renewal!

But then the OP also need to be aware of any discrepancy between the method of payment, name of booking and passport.

For safetys sake I'd be investing £70 in a new passport rather than the stress (and potential costs in the £'00 or £'000) for a missed flight

I have booked flights (BA and discount airline too) for my daughter recently (different surname) and encountered no problems, I just filled in a section for my details and passenger details were filled in separately.

You may have an issue with car hire abroad if they want to see both, also I believe there may be some airlines/travel agents that will only let you use a c/card of a person travelling.
