Wedding venue problems

I know I have posted lots of little separate posts but I find it is easier when you have a post dedicated to one topic. Long posts about numerous things are boring and you never get the main thing answered.

I am worried about the venue and wedding breakfast.

My other half is diabetic and we would like a sit down meal. The cost of some of these meals is £££ and some of the food is just 'too posh'. Can anyone give any advice with regards to what they done? Do you find a function room and get caterers? I really am confused and its the main thing which cant go wrong. Dont want him passing out on me!

  • Our hotel was very good about special menus. My MIL is a ceoliac and therefor cant eat anything with wheat gluten in. The guy that was dealing with the wedding was brilliant. he made sure that everything that could possibly be gluten free on menu was, and on the day he served my MIL so that she didn't by accident get anything that she wasn't supposed to.
We certainly asked all these questions when we went round to all the venues. i think that to get exactly what you want you have to go and talk to the wedding planners at the venues with your budget in mind first.this will give you a good idea of cost etc. Cost will vary greatly from region to region.
    Nothing to declare ;)
  • Oh yeah forgot to say they never charged us anymore for providing special diet!

The hotel we chose was very posh and friendly, the menu they provided wasn't what we wanted and so we asked for bangers and mash and strawberries and cream, which they had no problems agreeing with. Remember its your day and the venue should bend over backwards to give you what you want and i suppose what we wanted was plain and simple which the hotel was happy to provide. They even provided vegetarian sausages. Everyones a winner. Good luck.

We opted for a served buffet. Had all the seating plan and the feeling of a sit down meal but with lots of choice (and it was cheaper than a silver served meal). Each table was taken up one at a time and each guest served with whatever they chose. We gave the chef a theme and a budget and he knocked our socks off with the most fantastic seafood buffet (with meats and vegetarian options too).

I'm sure if you talk to the venues they can either come up with a suitable menu or alternatively try the buffet route so that maybe it doesn't feel so posh? (although to me it was just as posh). If they won't listen or can't accomodate, its not the right venue for you!
