Beware memory from Hong Kong. Not sure of the state now, But ebay was awash with fake drives and media players.

4GB drive or player that were really 1GB. The trick was you needed software to transfer the files. MP3 and MP4 files etc were compressed to a smaller lower quality file so you could fit your 4GB of mp3's onto the 1GB of space.

Windows would falsely declare the size also.

It was only when you try and put a zip file or something that it couldnt compress onto it that you found out it was fake.

Yes there used to be fakes and probably still are for the larger sizes but I can't see it being worth anyone's time and effort faking such low capacity drives. Is it actually possible to buy anything less than 1GB now?

Yes usb drives do seem to be around £1 per gig, that is until you go below 4gig. Be very lucky to find if at all to find 1 gig drive for a £1.

Do search for promotional usb dives, loads will pop up. But they tend to have minimum order of about 50 drives for about £2 each.

Ebuyer have a 2gb drive for £2.99. Otherwise ebay
Mansion TV. Avoid at all cost's :j

It might be worth pointing out the H2testw USB Flash Drive testing program. It writes to the whole, empty, drive and verifies that the data files written are readable.

An interesting side-effect is that it shows how agonisingly slow are most USB (2.0) Flash Drives...

You can get job lots of 10 x 2GB drives on eBay for just over £20 posted from USA or HongKong.

"just over£20" but you must also assume that the shipment will get selected for VAT which will add another £4 and then there is the handling and collection fee to be paid to the delivery agent. Royal mail charge £8 for this, and other couriers charge up to about £16.

H2test is a great little bit of software ( as such ) it also helps you find out if your flash drive is a fake , I bought one from ebay and run the test and low and behold it was a fake but ebay wouldn't help me get my money back , I even reported the ebay trader to trading standards but nothing came of it , a complete waste of time and I won't buy of ebay now.
Sorry I'm super gone off topic there sorry peeps. :o
