Can I Download Aol Broadband?

Having successfully set up the new PC (thanks chaps for all your advice - you were right, it was dead easy - apart from the monitor). Internet connection is fine, but I can't find my AOL disc to install the software.

Can I download AOL silver, or must i get a replacement disc#/
#Will a borrowed disc from a chum work, or is it user specific#/

Excuse the typos, new keyboard LOL.

Many thanks
I ave a dodgy H, so sometimes I will sound dead common, on occasion dead stupid and rarely, pig ignorant. Sometimes I may be these things, but I will always blame it on my dodgy H.

Sorry, I'm a bit of a grumble weed today, no offence intended ... well it might be, but I'll be sorry.

Do you really want to install the AOL software? Let the router make the connection and simply connect to that.

You don't need to download the AOL software.

No you cannot downlaod a specific package i.e Silver, Gold etc. Only AOL/Phone provider can set your line for Broadband.

Yes any AOL Broadband disc will work, it is not user specific. Be aware that there are different discs for Windows XP and Vista.

If you are a current AOL member and want to use the full functionality of AOL, you WILL have to install AOL. If you don't want the functionality then you can use AOL via explorer.

Yep that's what I have done (got rid of the AOL software) and I have changed the password on the router ... that last action really confuses the AOL install software if you ever want to reinstall it ... I guess Netgear's default username and password are hardcoded on to the install cd:-)

I for one was quite surprised actually when I discovered that the router firmware (the grandly named "NETGEAR Router Web-based Configurator") has a section which retains a Login string and password which can be edited (if you are using it on AOL it is your AOL email address and password). The router can of course be connected to just fine by any machine, Wireless or Ethernet without it using any AOL software at all. As a long term AOL user on and off, all that came as quite a revelation to me when I discovered it quite late in the day! They always used to like to keep you locked in to their proprietary stuff. Needs must/times change I guess.
