Any Benefits

Hi, general question here, I currently have my son every Friday from 3.30pm till Sunday 7pm, and ALL holidays and statutory working holidays, basically every minute I'm not at work, I pay regular amounts direct to the mother each month, but get NOTHING bearing in mind he spens over a third of the year with me, is there anything I am entitled to.

If it were done through the CSA they would reduce your payments vastly - however, the mother could then choose to keep the son every night so it would go against you.

If you have hime every holiday surely you shouldn't be paying maintence for them weeks, especially the six weeks summer holiday - or do you mean when you are on holiday from work

But the mother gets benefits for when she hasn't got the child?? It should work both ways,

    Should.

But the child benefit and child tax credits are paid to the main carer. They don't usually split those benefits and it goes to the parent who the child spends the majority of the time. This is also based mainly on night times (when they are not being fed, clothed, entertained etc).

I don't think he would be entitled to benefits if he is working, as someone else posted they will not pay to both but should he pay maintence when he has the child for the holidays - if it is school holidays I'm thinking of as that is 13 weeks, not just the 4 weeks he would get off from work.

Putting aside the moral aspects of the question, the OP will only be able to claim benefits as a single person.
    Gone ... or have I?
  • He should not in my opinion have to pay maintenance to the mother for the weeks he looks after the child.

Of course he probably WILL have to pay, because that's how the unfair system works.

I don't think he will be entitled to any benefits.

I cannot think of any benefit that you could get.

Can you not arrange with his mum for you to have the Child Benefit for the times you have him with you?
