iphone 4/4s unlocking

Hi fellow MSE members,

I know there must have been a large amount of threads asking this, but what is the best way to unlock an iphone 4/4s?

I have bought an iphone second hand from a family friend which is locked on tmobile however, I would like to insert an 02 sim in there. I know tmobile would charge me £15 (I am a current tmobile customer but wish to leave). and could take up to 28 days. Is this the best way to unlock?
Has anyone had their code sent within 28 days etc without problems? Or is there any other effective way of doing so?

iPhones don't need a code as such, T-Mobile tell Apple to unlock a phone, Apple updates their database and on the phones next sync to Apple it unlocks.

Any other way and the phone could be re-locked on any future sync or update.
