  • Hi all

Have suffered with bad breath since a teenager (now nearly 40) and have had alsorts of tests done by doctors and dentists, many of whom now think I'm a timewaster as they can never smell anything.

Contrast that with my work colleagues who I know talk about me behind my back. It is interesting that stress and dry mouth have come up, two things I can relate to. In any case, my social disability has pretty much curtailed any decent social life for me and despite being a polite and reasonable looking guy, have no chance of a wife or a family.

Then the CB12 ad comes on TV. Paid nearly £15 today for a bottle and will see how it goes. I don't smoke, drink excessively and try to eat healthily. I brush and floss daily and all mouthwashes so far have proved ineffective.

Will tell you how I get on.
  • I got severe bad breath a few years ago. Was brushing teeth 3 times a day and using alcohol based mouthwashes with no improvement.

Turns out the cause was using a cpap (breathing mask) at night due to sleep apnea which really dries out your mouth and throat. This severely affected my relationship as I was frantically brushing my teeth to no avail and thought she just wanted rid of me!!

I have completely eliminated any bad breath with the following steps in the morning when I get up....

    1) Use a tongue scraper (about £3/4 from boots). Clean the tongue and especially the back of the tongue where the "smeg" gathers. Really push it (carefully and slowly) to the back of your tongue until you almost gag. Make sure to do the sides and middle. You will see the gunge coming off.

    2) Brush teeth with Retardex toothpaste

    3) Rinse and gargle with retardex mouthwash

Relationship saved and confidence restored! Good luck

  • My husband sometimes complains I have bad breath. Last time this happened I was sitting 4 feet away from him on a different sofa! I feel embarrassed when he says this but I tell him not to stop as who else would tell me!

I have really good dental hygiene. My dentist tells me he has never seen such clean teeth and he doesn't understand why this happens on occasions. So I bought CB12 and immediately my husband said it worked. I used it for a week then stopped (as it's so expensive!) and my husband said the problem had returned. So I'm back to using CB12 again and no complaints.

The trouble is I've learned from my dentist that mouthwashes can turn your teeth yellow (he didn't know if this happens with CB12). I'm 63 and at my age, my teeth are yellowing slightly with age anyway so I now have to choose between possible yellow teeth or bad breath. No contest really and I'll get my teeth whitened!

So in a nutshell, expensive or not, yellow teeth or not, CB12 works for me. I'm going to scour the Internet to find a cheaper source.

Be very careful with sourcing anything 'cheaply' via the internet.

If it's a site like Boots online, or Superdrug, or the big pharmacies, then OK, but if it's some place you've never heard of and the price seems stupid-cheap - THEN BE VERY VERY WARY.

Counterfeit goods do exist, or it could be outdated, poorly stored, flood/fire damaged stock, or anything.

Incidentally, have you had a check-up with your Dr recently?

There are some bad breath conditions that can happen as a result of some medical problems. A simple blood or urine test might bring something to light.

There will be *something* that is causing this problem, and it would be a good idea to try and find out what it is.
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.
  • What the dental industry don't want you to know is that a simple product ie hydrogen peroxide is an incredibly effective treatment for bad breath (not originating from the gut) and costs less than £1 per bottle. Yes, it is what hairdressers use to bleach hair but it is not at the strength one would use as a mouth wash. Google the following: hydrogen peroxide as a mouthwash - then read all about this miraculous product.

I suffered from periodontitis from the age of 21 to 27 years old and no treatment worked apart from metronidazole antibiotics but it would return periodically. It was a family member (a chemist) who suggested I try gargling with hydrogen peroxide. I also would syringe a mixture of hydrogen peroxide and salt into the deep pockets that formed along the gum line to neutralise the odour emanating from there and to treat the decaying tissue. I am now into my 40's and have been able to help many people over the years with this simple treatment. The strength I use varies from what I am able to source 3%, 6% and 9% and I dilute to the required strength. Follow the instructions on the bottle. For the novice I would start on 4 parts water to 1 part hydrogen peroxide. After almost 20 years of using this product I am able to tolerate a much stronger mix - and gargle at least 4 times per day (I eat a lot of spicy food) - which at less than £1 per bottle is only pence.
  • It certainly works better than anything else I have tried so far but is rather expensive. I will give hydrogen peroxide and retardex a go. Has anyone tried buying it online for the cheaper price of £8 ?
Has anyone had any success with chewing orange peel? It makes for a nice change from mint.

I use probiotic lozenges. They taste very minty and claim to create an environment in your mouth where good bacteria thrive. The cheapest I can find are 'Oraldiet'. There are also ones called GUM which I really like but they cost a bomb. (I am not trying to advertise by the way)!

Read somewhere TCP gargled daily is very effective. Tastes minging but cheap as chips.
I ave a dodgy H, so sometimes I will sound dead common, on occasion dead stupid and rarely, pig ignorant. Sometimes I may be these things, but I will always blame it on my dodgy H.

Sorry, I'm a bit of a grumble weed today, no offence intended ... well it might be, but I'll be sorry.
