CB12 - Costly But Does It Kill Bad Breath? Can't Find Independent Review

Bad breath is such a turn off. I've tried to get rid of mine but to date no success.

Today I bought a product called CB12, my girlfriend saw an ad for it and insisted I get it! Its claim seems simple it kills bad breath for up to 12 hours. "Here's part of its spin: CB12 is a new mouth rinse that counteracts bad breath, ensuring safe breath for 12 hours (and dental protection). CB12 is the first mouth rinse that effectively treats bad breath (halitosis), instead of masking the condition for a short period of time." Website A big claim and at almost £15 from Boots quite a price tag especially if you would have to continue using it to keep bad breath at bay (approx 60p dose, £1.20 day)

Anyway I've been trying to trace an independent review but without success, anybody come across one; would appreciate the web address.

Has anybody tried it, what's your opinion? Does it work and if you stop using it, say after you've used the first container (25 doses) and switch to a more economic mouthwash will bad breath return?

I have contacted the manufacturers re continued use and will let you know what they say.

Appreciate you input.

I use Retardex which I think is a similar product. It all depends on the cause of the bad breath. If it is due to dental neglect or bad oral hygiene, then the answer is to deal with the cause. If it is a question of eating a spicy or garlicky meal, and wanting to neutralise any possible residual smell, then it will probably solve the problem. That's what I use it for!

Dehydration is another cause of bad breath, and also smoking, and we all know what the answers are there .

First of all try to get to the bottom of what is causing the problem. If it is just simply the morning after effects of last night's dinner, then I would say try Retardex. A large bottle is around £8, and will last a while if you use it sparingly.

CB12 is useless and did not work for me. It is another mouthwash with a huge price tag and claims. Will advise against it

I second retardex (called ultradex now), I have dry mouth sometimes and this really helps..

£8 for a 500ml bottle but you can often get 2 for 3 in boots

Trying to cure 'bad breath' yourself just with mouthwash is like trying to get rid of the smell of a damp wall with air freshener.

The wall is damp because there is a structural problem, and just trying to mask the smell will not make the problem go away, but just make it more costly to fix, day by day, week by week.

You need to get to a dentist to identify and treat the source of the problem. Occasionally its not dental, but gastro-intestinal, or possibly an ENT problem. Either way, your dentist will be able to refer you to the right people and actually cure the problem, rather than just masking the symptoms.

In general most mouthwashes make bad breath worse. Alot is caused by inadequate oral hygiene eg not flossing or using tepe brushes, compounded by smoking and or dry mouth.

As most mouthwashes contain alcohol this dries out the mouth further so after the initial "hit" of "freshness" the mouth is dried out even further making the bad breath return quickly.

See your dentist about the cause of bad breath , if it is dry mouth there are simple measures such as chewing sugar free gum to stimulate saliva flow and specialised products such as artificial salivas that will help, as will eliminating the cause of dry mouth , if possible, eg changing blood pressure tablets or treating blocked nose.

Retardex etc simply mask the sulphur compounds they do nothing to treat the cause, you are papering the cracks. Bad smells are your bodies way of warning you there is a problem that needs sorting, not masking. Unless you are an inveterate garlic,onion,curry eater etc !

I prefer the 3 for 2 offers, they're cheaper

I got the cb12 mouthwash for my other half about 3 weeks ago. He gets a sort of dry mouth bad breath , which gets worse when he stressed about work. .Normal dental hygiene doesn't prevent it.
We have notice a big difference using the cb12 and would really recomend giving it a try.

Some advice a dentist gave me - sometimes it's the tonsils that cause the bad cloying taste / breath. When garggling with mouthwash lean your head back and stick your tongue out of the mouth and the mouthwash will reach right to the tonsil area to get to work. Bit of a challenge but can be effective if the tonsils are the cause.

Tried that only the once.
