iPhone5 Hidden Deposit

Options
Hi all,

Just wanted to ask if anyone has recently purchased an iPhone5, and if so have you been asked to lay down a three-month deposit.

Yesterday I jumped on the wagon and walked out of Phones4U with Apple's latest handset, but almost nearly changed my mind halfway through discussion with the salesman because of hidden costs.

Apparently because of my credit rating I must pay a three-month deposit of £200, they don't tell you that on the tv adverts.

I decided to pay the amount but was left feeling slightly cheated by 02 which I used to adore but now find rather sneaky.

When I was young I respected cool people, then I grew up I respected clever people, now I'm wiser I respect kind people.

You signed up to pay £66 per month? Surely not?
I'm guessing they have asked for a deposit because they consider you to be a high risk.

Why is it hidden they told you before you signed up and still continues, thats not what you expected but certainly not hidden. If your credit was bad it may have bene on other phones too.

And they don't have it in the adverts but that's probably as it won't apply to everyone. Look at it another way in 3 months you'll have some months free use as the deposit is returned to your account.

This would be the same if you wanted the Samsung Galaxy 3, or any other top of the line phone. It's down to the network not being too keen on the combination of your credit file, and your chosen phone. O2 are the only ones now to give people with poor credit a chance - Orange and the like would be an instant decline, or offer only sim only.

I get that you are disappointed that you've been asked for a deposit, but it's either that or nothing at all - as others say, in Feb you can avail of several months prepaid phone bills.
  • You are insane if you signed a 24 month £66 per month deal. I would go for a 4s which is the same phone but smaller. I should know I have got one. Most networks charge £36 per month and you get ultd mins and text and 1gb of data.
The harder one works the luckier one gets!

You've a bad credit rating already, but you think you need to spend £1584 to have a phone for 2 years?
Good luck with your DRO.
