Wow I have a star! :j
I've just looked at Green Flag breakdown cover and can get the same level as my RAC for £8.20 per a month.
That's getting a bit better! It really does help to shop around and it's actually really easy!Current debt - £16,300Debt at worst 17/03/2011 - £18,067.62:eek::eek::ANot going anywhere else, ever again :A0 -
Hi Lucy - def call up RAC and say 'Green Flag are offering me....' then RAC may back down even more. Join Quidco.com and do it through there to get even more cashback on the online prices from Green Flag. RAC may also be on Quidco, not sure.
I saved my mother in Law £90 this year by doing that (she has been paying the standard AA rate for 19 YEARS @ £165 a year and never asked for a better deal!). She is now paying £80ish and much happier, because a) she asked for a current quote for once in 19 years and b) she then told them how annoyed she was at how they had been charging her so much for 19 years and asked for a further reduction on the online price.
Def cancel mobile phone insurance as it's worthless...
What mobile network are you on? T-mobile do a great Flext Tariff which has saved me loads of money as you get a certain amount in credit to spend (£45 I think on the £20 per month tariff) and this can get used up in texts & minutes, no more need to worry abotu every text / call you make. Plus they text you yout latest balance every Friday.

Hi
Why do you have such high level of cover when you don't need it- you haven't called them out! All you need is home start and roadside. It will bring the cost down conciderably and you won't have to pay monthly, that would be extra money toward one of your debts0 -

This is true, I think I just wanted to be covered for everything. That and as I am normally travelling in the car alone, I didn't fancy being stuck on the side of the road if they couldn't get me started!
But I''l have a look and see how much cheaper it is.Current debt - £16,300Debt at worst 17/03/2011 - £18,067.62:eek::eek::ANot going anywhere else, ever again :A0 -
they will always get you started or take you to your destination/home/garage. I hear what you are saying but last year you didn't call them out.0

I had a look at Green Flag and cover without Recovery is about £20 a year cheaper so worth doing.
That and I am sure friends and family would come and get me if I was stuck!!
Thanks for the advice. I think my problem is I know nothing about car's so fnd the prospect of them breaking down on me very scary!
The next one to hit is the Inscurance, I'm still waiting for the renewal quote from Norwich Union, but have been scouting around and one of the cheapest I've found so far as been the Post Office which would cut my monthly payment from £63.40 down to £35.04! Rather impressed with that so we shall have to see what NU offer!Current debt - £16,300Debt at worst 17/03/2011 - £18,067.62:eek::eek::ANot going anywhere else, ever again :A0 -
Well done Lucy. Keep up the good work!
I changed car insurers 2 years ago after stupidly being loyal to one company for about 10 years when the premium never seemed to reduce even though I'd never made a single claim and had the same car which towards the end wasn't worth much more than the annual premium:rotfl:. Before I found MSE it never occurred to me to query the written renewal figure:o. Then I bought a new car (well, new to me anyway) and the new premium quoted was a bit steep in my opinion.
I switched insurers and signed up online with Norwich Union Direct and was very pleasantly surprised. Watch out though as they usually give an extra discount for new buyers who sign up online but this special rate only lasts for the first year:eek: . When it came to renew I saw that my premium was higher than the previous year (same car and no claims ) so I was off again!
It's quite fun shopping around. I'll do it through Quidco next time and save even more!0 -
I'm finding it fun actually. But I think I might be getting a little obsessed!!

You get recovery and everything for that priceThere are times when parenthood seems nothing but feeding the mouth that bites you Peter De VriesDebt free by 40 (27/11/2016)0
