    Debt-free and Proud!
With the reception, there should surely be some wine with the meal & bubbly for the toasts, so I reckon you can probably get away without much dosh at the reception - and if you get a coke or lemonade, who's to know you haven't got a vodka in there? Hopefully some people will offer you a drink in your role as bridesmaid too!

With the dress - as you've had to pay for it then once the wedding's over get it cleaned and put it on Ebay!

    RAC

I pay monthly and for that I get roadside, at home and recovery. I probably can get this cheaper and is one of my challenges at renewal time!!

    Dress.

The dress is stunning, so I might hold onto it for a little while that and it would be fine for any balls i go to (not that I go to many, but you never know!) I'm hoping that the reception will come in at around £30 but I'm not sure how pricey things are going to be. I might be sneaky and put a bottle of wine in the car..... cheap top ups!

    Hi Lucy

    Glad you're sounding happier :)

My sister got married last year and I was here bridesmaid - £300 pound dress plus alterations etc, luckily my mum and dad paid :D I could never have done it myself!

With regards to the drinks at the reception, my cheap trick it to alternate between alcholic and non alcholic, makes it loads cheaper :)
  • Do people make bridesmaids pay for their own dresses?! I thought that would be seen as a bit cheeky! A friend of mine bought her 4 bridesmaid dresses in advance over quite a long period of time to spread the cost, just had to make sure none of them put on weight!:rotfl:

    Also a good idea.

I am a bit happier actually. I think it's very cheeky of her to expect us to pay for her big white wedding! She asked 5 of us to be adult bm's and 2 unders 4 and then realised how much it would cost!

But the Bridal shop have been lovely and they have given us discounts on everything, which I think has saved us about £70/80 each, so I shouldn't complain to much.

  • True, no point letting it ruin things, and at least you can definitely keep the dress! Just make the most of whatever wine is already at the reception!!

I have every intention of it. If they are stupid enough to spend £75 per head then there had better be a lot of good wine to account for it!!!

Try Quidco and Green Flag. I got mine for 29.50 a year and got 20 pounds back- so the year has cost me 9.50ish (relying on memory). Been paid and all!
    Good luck,

Well I got home yesterday to find my RAC renewal quote waiting for me. As I've been a good car owner and not called them out this year I get a £25 discount on my premium.

This takes my repayments down to £11.08 per month. I guess I can get this cheaper still and will have a look and I guess I should call them and see if they can do better.

It would be easier to pay it off in full but I'm not going to be able to do that this year. I think once I've paid off a couple of store cards I might stick that amount into a savings account ready for next year!

But I am rather pleased with myself I only spent £1.05 yesterday and I went to the pub last night! :T
