Chinnor and Thame. Just the other side of the ridge from HW and very close to the railway links direct to London.....Worth looking.
Debt Free! Long road, but we did it

  • How about Wendover, Princes Risborough, Great Missenden or some of the other villages north of HW on the way to Aylesbury?
  • Tring also has good transport links...
  • Note that future property prices in the Chilterns maybe adversely affected by the proposed HS2 railway.

Note that future property prices in the Chilterns maybe adversely affected by the proposed HS2 railway.

That is true, however, there is robust and united opposition to this ridiculous proposal along with the current economic climate that would generally preclude ambitous wastes of money. Considering the Government couldnt engineer a simple dome to come in on time and on budget, I'll be astonished if they manage to make it out of London without using the entire budget let alone the Chilterns which has been designated as an area of outstanding natural beauty.

My partner and I are planning to move in together in March next year.

I work in the city and he works just outside High Wycombe. We are struggling to find a nice area which is convenient for both us on the daily commute. We are both in our 30's and would like to be based somewhere with good transport links to London and a commute of no more than 45mins (max 1 hr) each.

    Any suggestions?

    Cheers
Have you considered Stokenchurch (jnc 5 of M40). Down the M40 or A40 into Wycombe-about 7 miles (?). buses into high wycombe, then train from there, or in a roundabout way-princes risborough, as you can get trains to london from there easily.

I currently live in High Wycombe and work in the City (I go to St. Pauls or Barbican).

I get the 7.42am train from Wycombe and get to work at 9. If I get the 7.25am train I get to work at around 8.30. There is also a 7.10 train if you want earlier.

    Where is "just outside" Wycombe?

Beaconsfield is enroute, but you only save 6 minutes on train and it costs a lot more to live there.

And above, Amersham is also a good shout, you can get the Met line straight to Farringdon and Barbican.

I am a little confused as to why you are wanting somewhere to live near High Wycombe, but not actually live there?

Perfect location, big house, nice area and about 2/3rd of the price of GC and Beaconsfield for the same type of house.
  • I don't think we would want to go any further West than High Wycombe to be honest as the commute would get too much.

We haven't looked into High Wycombe just yet but definitely a possibility. Rickmansworth is also a possibility I think.
  • UPDATE:

We ended up getting a property in Pinner and expect to exchange in the coming weeks :-)

Thank you everyone for your advice
