Good location between High Wycombe and the City

My partner and I are planning to move in together in March next year.
I work in the city and he works just outside High Wycombe. We are struggling to find a nice area which is convenient for both us on the daily commute. We are both in our 30's and would like to be based somewhere with good transport links to London and a commute of no more than 45mins (max 1 hr) each.
Any suggestions?
Cheers

When you say City, do you literally mean City (ie Bank/Liv St, etc), or London in general?
Check out which train lines you both need (let us know what stations you need to reach), and whether your partner will be driving to work.

Yes, Bank/Moorgate in the city.
I'll be on public transport to the city and the other half will be driving to/from High Wycombe. National Rail or Tube are fine0 -
do you want to rent/buy property? what is your maximum budget? what is your age range? do you go out much to the west end and need easy access to it?0

Well you have picked some of the most expensive real estate in the country. So unless your budget is huge I think nice area can be ruled out.I'm retiring at 55. You can but dream.0

I couldn't agree more.Well you have picked some of the most expensive real estate in the country. So unless your budget is huge I think nice area can be ruled out.
The obvious answers are Beaconsfield, Amersham and Gerards Cross - all of which come with huge price tags. The commute across town from Marylebone to Bank / Liverpool St is a minimum of 20 mins btw.
I think you're probably better off looking at HW itself, so only one of you have to commute. If you pick Middlesex, you'll both have to.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

Any West London Boroughs close to the A40 for easy road access to HW and close to a tube station for access to the City.
Harrow, Ealing, Hillingdon are 3 such boroughs and all have tube and main line stations.
These areas are typical of outer London house prices though. I assume you have already considered them?0 -
We are both in our mid 30's and looking to buy. We have built up a decent deposit so ideally looking for a 3 bedroom house.
We tend to go into London on a regular basis so good/frequent trains to London would be useful.
Thank you for all the comments so far..very much aprpeciated0 -
Without knowing budget, it's really hard to say.
The only place you're going to get into town from somewhere West is likely to be in and around Reading so you can use the fast train. A few mins over an hour to Moorgate from Reading. If you're elsewhere (like Henley-on-Thames), you're looking at an hour and a half.
Can get to HW from Reading in 40-ish mins according to googlemaps. Obviously don't know about rush hour traffic though!
Some desirable parts just outside if you don't want to be too central to Reading. Maybe your OH could drop you at Reading station en route in the mornings if you consider Reading or somewhere he'd not have to double back to reach the station?

Maidenhead - still not cheap, but probably cheaper than Beaconsfield, Amersham or GC. Then there is Slough........"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

Around HW itself is likely to be at the cheaper end of your search area.. and the Chiltern service into Marylebone is pretty reliable, although you do have to get from there across to the City. If you take the (very) long view, places like Langley, Iver, and indeed Slough, will be on Crossrail when it opens......0
