They have the right to supply you with forms (on which you record time/date/nature of noise) and to come out and listen to the noise themselves (complete with a recording device they have). Wondering whether this device is a smoke alarm with a failing battery and it's beeping to attract attention? (and yes the Council can request an antisocial neighbour to deal with it).
You've now got me wishing I'd paid more attention to Monday's "Homes under the hammer" programme. Racks brains - I think I saw the people you mean...might go back on Iplayer to check them out...
Wishing you good luck with this.
I agree. I have no sensible suggestions, unfortunately, but I do sympathise (for what that is worth). Good luck from me, too.0 -
Is this the house concerned, that is the one in Chatham, Kent (first one shown on the programme):

Thanks for the update, it's good to know what happens with stories on this forum. I'll try and watch that programme!
Hopefully, if your neighbours are trying o be difficult they'll get bored of that. Either way, as they're not planning to live there they will either rent it out or sell it so they shouldn't be a problem for too long.0 -
Well my neighbour who appeared on Monday's BBC Homes Under the Hammer, had his planning application refused, this actually came on Monday afternoon .
Although he lives 25 miles away from this property (which is currently empty), he was up here cutting the grass at 8 am Tuesday morning !!! He knows that I work on a nightshift, so was seeking his revenge for my planning objection. Rather worryingly though, there has been a very strange metallic squeaking noise coming from the empty house since he left late morning, I'm wondering if he has left some sort of irratating noise device running to upset us ?
Hi mate,
Congratulations on the refusal! I also work shifts and have had noise problems with neighbours, so I totally understand your situation. (In fact, I have one of those headaches right now.)
One time I noticed an irritating noise... and forgot I had left my dehumidifier on!! It was self-inflicted for once. Perhaps he has done something similar?0 -
I've just woken from a decent sleep apart from the rain hitting the window ! I did think that it could have been a portable heater or humidifier squeaking away, it does appear to have stopped now . I'm sure they have no heating nor hot water and the house has been empty since the BBC's visit in October, so would be cold and possibly damp.
Yes it is the house that is in Chatham although someway from the Dockyard, its on the doorstep of Rochester airport.
I have taken onboard all the comments regarding reporting the noise and will act if necessary.
Cheers again.0 -
so your neighbour shouldnt be able extend his house because it causes you a bit of inconveience hey. sure if the boot was on the other foot you'd feel that this was a terrible injustice and an infringement on your human rights. its a single storey extension which with a good builder should be completed in a few weeks. once its done its done and you wont have this hanging over you anymore. Maybe he'll appeal and win and will be able to do it anyway then.0

I could be wrong, but im sure the OP mentioned several extentions and alterations which would most likely include sewerage systems being moved.
This can take more than any few weeks.
Im sure had it been a reasonable planning suggestion then most would not object. But after months of no sleep due to work being carrried out only to find much more was planned, i cant say i blame the OP.
Well done OP, sleep well.0 -

I have had a quick look at this.
It seems to be a classic example of inexperienced auction buyers (although they have apparently invested in commercial property), paying too much and with a totally unrealistic renovation budget. They were also far too optimistic regarding profits from resell or renting out.
I would be surprised if they go ahead with plans for extension.0 -

Exactly if only things were so simple, its taken them 22 months to complete an estimated 4 months work , I'm sure that even you would enjoy being 'disturbed' for that length of time, only for it to start over again ? Having watched the progam on Monday it seems he has been done a favour, as the estate agent claimed he wouldn't achieve a return on any further building work.0 -

LOL!!! I remember this guy - Chatham, right? Rest assured I think he's spent too much on the house as it stands - don't think he'll sensibly do it (even one of the EAs on HUTH said so)0
