Freesat from sky recording functionality

We cancelled sky a few months back and were left with the free to view channels and most features like pausing, rewinding etc no longer worked.
Recently the epg updated and the pause, rewind and record functions were working again. I can even watch shows I recorded previously as long as I still have those channels.
Just wondering if this is a new feature added by sky as I was under the impression they charged about £10 a month for this.

A couple of months back my free sat from sky box recieved all channels bar sports and movies. Lasted about a month then went back to normal. This was shortly after i had an issue with my subscription box so was most likely an error but if you want to be cynical of sky (which I know a lot of you like to be!) you could say it was a marketing trick to try and get customers back. :-)YNWA
