It's Viagogo's own box office (possibly crossed with previous post - edited the OP to make it clearer).

Well thats new information and completely changes the picture. I would assume then they may provide compensation. Especially as a member of staff told you they would.

Have you asked for it yet?

  • Sorry I was not clearer in my OP (though I did put "a box room in a rented office building staffed by foreign students struggling with English with no idea what they were supposed to be doing and no computers to help!") :-)

I haven't contacted them yet - I will do so later I just wanted to see if there were any opinions/experience from other people on what was the best approach.

    Thanks to everyone who replied.

But as the box office was handing out the tickets for which the money was paid to another party then they are acting as agents for Viagogo and as such, it is still Viagogo's responsibility to ensure that customers get what they paid for in good time to use their purchases.

If tickets were purchased for a future event and were posted to customers but never arrived or arrived late, the customer wouldn't be expected to claim from Royal mail.
In the case of posting, RM are acting as the agent of the seller. In this case the box office were acting as the agent of Viagogo.

Its irrelevant now as its turned out to be a viagogo box office. However I don't remotely agree with this.

Post is completely different as you are relying on something outside your control delivering the tickets to you. Therefore that is viagogo's responsibility to ensure the tickets arrive in reasonable time.

Box Office collection is down to the buyer actually going to collect the tickets. The responsibility of Viagogo is to have the tickets ready for collection. The responsibility of the buyer is to collect the tickets in good time.

By your reasoning if I have tickets for an event starting at 7:45pm, if I turn up at the ticket office at 7:40pm then If there is a queue and i miss the start of the event its Viagogo's fault and they should compensate me?

I assumed you were moving into casual racism and decided to ignore that bit.

Why not just approach them and ask?

We can sit here and speculate all day. We can't really advise you on how to proceed (putting aside the disagreement of whether you're entitled to anything or not) until we know what the company are going to respond.

You may approach them and they may offer you something with no argument. We're so used to hearing about companies saying x and doing y or not doing xyz that we forget about the problems that are resolved with no fuss.

And FWIW, I just went onto their site to try get T&C's etc and clickedo n the tickets for today 12th november......this is the message I got:
    Sorry
    Unable to deliver these tickets

There are no valid delivery methods to get the tickets to you in time for the event.

So you may indeed have a case.
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride
  • Just to tie this up, I emailed Viagogo explaining what had happened and asking for a partial refund (I didn't specify any amount), and they offered me half what I paid in cash, or the full amount as a voucher valid for 1 year. No arguments!

    So all sorted :o
