& what taxes would you like to rise to make up the shortfall?
Road tax on bicycles, road tax for foreign vehicles using British roads, close tax loopholes that allow companys to pay next to nothing in tax, stop treating foreign visitors on the NHS unless they pay in advance, get rid of tax credits completely and increase the tax thresholds for working parents. Oh and 100% tax on eggs, cant stand em.;)Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0 -

This nonsense with fuel taxation has to stop. Its pushing up food prices, air travel, taxi fares, clothes, postage & delivery costs and many other things.
The fact that any increase in duty is even being considered is madness. The arrogance of these people astounds me.
and let me guess.. you don't smoke.. don't read mags or papers.. don't eat fast food.. see where I'm going with this..0 -
I dont smoke but i think anyone suggesting putting up the tax on fags is crazy. It already goes up every year and every year people scratch their heads wondering how to tackle smuggling. Maybe if it didnt cost more jjust for the duty her than the product can be bought for elsewhere it wouldbt be worth smuggling? Oh and why doesnt anyone consider the costs of putting fuel duty up or even keeping it where it is.
As others have said this directly impacts the cost of everything. This means companies either put their prices up or spend less. This leads to induviduals cutting back and so it goes on.Mixed Martial Arts is the greatest sport known to mankind and anyone who says it is 'a bar room brawl' has never trained in it and has no idea what they are talking about.0 -
schadenfreude.....
It's hilarious to watch people squirming, the fun hasn't even started yet.
In the 2011/2012 financial year the UK deficit was £126 BILLION.
To put that in to perspective the government has a £115bn budget for welfare or £120bn for healthcare.
If you're honestly feeling the pain when a litre of petrol is an extra 3 pence then I'm not sure you've really prepared yourself for the road we're on. The UK is going to be unrecognisable in 10 years time I promise you that. For the past 20 years we have literally taken on all the debt we can, we spent all our future earnings and now we're in the future with nothing to show for it but German cars, Jap tech and Chinese tat. People seemed to believe you could base an economy on buying houses!
This is where we are. Time to start paying it back.0 -
Im not say three pence is devastating. What i am saying is there is a point at which there is diminishing returns then it is no longer a case of increase taxes to increase revenue. Same as the smoking example, excep cigarettes dont directly impact the cost if everything else.
Motorists already pay more than their fair share. Its not thier fault the so called alternatives are dire or that government puts what they pay towards other things.Mixed Martial Arts is the greatest sport known to mankind and anyone who says it is 'a bar room brawl' has never trained in it and has no idea what they are talking about.0 -

I did think this when we had the fuel strikes. They needed the tax to pay for the healthcare etc.
I thought.... Isnt your income tax and NI supposed to pay for that?
Why are motorists paying for the healthcare.
Wont adding 3p to the tax or NI bring in more money and still keep the UK competetive?
Im looking at starting up my own business. But its hard to compete on a decent scale.
I can make a few £ on ebay and my own website. But to try and build that to a business that you can employ people and leave it to run itself whilst you enjoy the goodlife is not on the cards.
