Im leaving talktalk. Are you??

My TalkTalk contract is due to expire in October 2007. I plan to leave then. I would leave earlier but cant pay the £70 disconnection fee.

I used to be happy with the service but since the free broadband offer service has gone to pot!

How many others out there who signed up at the same time will be leaving when the contract ends? Let me know!

If you signed up to the free broadband offer will you be leaving or renewing? 12 votes

In a word, "yes, I hope to leave them". In a post titled "Same song different words" I wrote

"Several times each day, almost every day, I am forced to follow TalkTalk's "Assist & Go"'s recommended procedure to get connected.
I did NOT sign up for this inconvenience. Furthermore at the end of this frustrating procedure, connection isn't always successful and I am left with no alternative but to repeat the routine untill I am on line.
Once connection has been made, I am presented with a request to actually AWARD TT with up to five stars for their help. At first I would give them three stars, then I dropped to one, but now I'm thinking "sod it", award them for what ?, if they gave me the connection I've paid them for, they wouldn't need the stars.
I now ask myself, should I remain calm and spend the rest of my contract time repeating this labourious task daily, or not.
I am aware it is possible to be released from a contract and a fee has to be paid. Does anyone know what this fee is ?, is it an easy access withdrawl?, given that it isn't just BB but the phone and rental as well, has this been done to deter transfer away?.

So now I know it is £70 to leave, I am one of those people who feel it is money well spent. But, how easy is it to go before time? do they make it hell?, are we left with no phone?. Good luck with this thread and the information it may bring forth regarding "HOW TO ESCAPE ,"

  • I signed up to talk talk in january, and I only got on line with them last week!!(11/04/07) I have already made arrangements to leave and go back to ntl, now virgin, as I have had nothing but problems with talk talk. It just isn't worth the hassle or the financial saving. I do not think they are equipped to provide the service they are offering.
Their customer service is appalling and can be expensive. You get passed from one call centre to the next, and still end up none the wiser. I even purchased a wireless router from them and had problems with the set up. I rang their technical support, only to be given yet another number to ring which would have cost me a £1 a minute!!!
I am going back to virgin, and I'll also receive a free wireless router so talk talk can have theirs back, and can keep their abysmal service too!
It is true .... you get what you pay for!

I (that is islandman) have learnt today, that TT will on payment of £70, clear you from their system in about three days, thus leaving the line MAC free. This will allow a new provider to take the line. What I am unsure though, is does this exit cover ALL of the pacakages. I am on International 3. That which I've quoted, was for one of the other packages. Maybe YOU know more?

I dont think any off you will find it that easy to leave these clowns,my connect was up and it took me months to leave them ,they kept trying to take money out and wouldnt disconnect me ,I didnt need mac code but spent hours ,days and weeks on the phone and when I did break free they had a sting in their tail, they didnt send final bill ,but months after leaving got a letter telling me I had 4 days to pay then £11 or the debt company would be send to recover the money ,so all out there beware and yes I did clear them but didnt know what this £11 was for and still dont

I had been with them for a long time, initally just for calls, then for BB for over a year before the free offer came out .

Everything was fine until they took on the line rental , and then transferred to LLU...

I have just cancelled the line, asking BT to take over which should in turn end their BB ( I have a backup option anyway)

If they enforce the disconnection fee I will dispute it / take action to recover it.

    Good morning
Word of advice, put everything in writing, make sure you ask for the person's name when phoning and of course keep details in your diary of everything.. We cancelled but kept receiving demands for money, then debt recovery agent's letters and then a debt collector's letter. All because someone kept us on record as live, despite ongoing written and email communication with them, well not communication it was all one way from us.

If you have any prpoblems see my earlier separate threads for relevant telephone and contact drtails.

    Good luck

I thought I'd have an hour surfing. Silly me. 1st/2nd & 3rd attemps failed to connect, so I embarked on the long Assist & Go procedure that too failed, so tried 4/5/6 times, still nothing, then on the 7th attempt, and another Assist & Go route, I was online and was given the opportunity to award Talktalk up to five stars. What I actually gave them was a good mouthfull of abuse. What a pity they couldn't hear me.

  • read a few of the messages. I just signed up, it did take a while to get broadband (the main reason my hubby wanted it), but so far so good. I needed an alternative to BT who doubled my direct debit in 3 months.

    UPDATE TO OPENING POST:
Managed to get through to the options centre re Leaving, Spoke to the same burk as before and got as frustrated as before, especially when he clamed that TalkTalk had the highest customer service rating on uSwitch.com. Got off phone to him then spoke to very helpful chap at uSwitch who confirmed my suspicions and told me that TalkTalk were in fact second from bottom. Phoned back TalkTalk and spoke to someone who laughed out loud when I told her what burk had said, she put me through to her manager who for the reason that I was lied to agreed to cancel my contract and waive the fee.

I am very disappointed that I had to do this. When I joined TalkTalk two years ago I found their service second to none, but since the free broadband offer they have the attitude of sign up as many new customers as possible and stuff the after sales service. When I told the manager this she basically said they are under so much pressure to get new customers on board that they no longer have time for chasing up customers problems as before.

As for me I have arranged to transfer my line rental back to BT and probably go with them for calls and internet. You could say better the devil you know! I know it will be a few quid extra a month but after my experiences with TalkTalk I can handle that.
