Sweet potatoes advice

Hi
Has anyone tried growing sweet potatoes? I've got a couple from the supermarket that sprouted in the cupboard and am debating planting them. I'd have to plant them in a pot/bag as I only have a small garden. Is it worth me taking up a pot with supermarket one? will it grown? will it work?!
thanks for any help

I have just put one in a bag of compost and awaiting the results. Will let you know what happens. I got mine from the supermarket also.If you think this has helped make my day and hit the thanks button:beer:0 -
I managed to grow them successfully a few years ago. I grew them from slips (these are like the green sprouts without the tuber attached)
Thompson and Morgan sell them

If your sweet potato is sprouting I would have thought it would be worth a go. I think that they might be sold as slips because it is cheaper to post them in this form.
After harvesting they have to be cured - see this website for how to do it

I tried from slips Thompson and Morgan last year...a total failure! But then last year was fairly disasterous on the plot all round. I wouldn't buy them again (they arrived in dreadful condition, I complained and they sent more...just as bad), but will try from supermarket ones...in the hope of a better summer. I'd say give it a try...nothing to lose but a bit of time and water!0

Hi, I know you can buy sweet potato slips for about £10 but being moneysaving I wanted to do my own. Have seen a method where you put a sweet potato in a jar with a bit of water and eventually it might sprout tubers but wondered if anyone has had any sucess with anything like this?True MSE'r -Money Spending Expert
