Help Scottish power first bill

Hi
I have just changed to scottish power for dual fuel (prev SP for electric and Atlantic gas) my first meter reading has just been entered and shows 128 units used since 25th august. At the start of the reading I was £234 + in credit. With the new reading I am £434+ in debit as the bill has come up as £630+ for gas. I now cannot access the SP site as it seems to be down for account info so I cannot even recheck the figures. I am REALLy worried about this as I have never had a bill this large and we were actually away for 6wks out of the period. I am supposed to be on fixed till nov13 tarriff which doesand not appear on their energy price details, but I reckon this works out to about 12p kwh which is def not correct. Both the meter readings were correct. I have tried to phone but obviously they are now closed I work fulltime 8-6.30 so their opening hours of 8am-7pm are no help as i will not be home. When I changed to SP for dual fuel a D/D was agreed of £72 a month.

You appear to have entered the meter readings incorrectly, as your bill doesn't make any sense.

SP's website is usually 'down' at the weekends for account access - this is normal.

Don't you get a lunch break in your 8-6.30 working day - you could phone then?

  • I would agree, I once did this and my fuel bill went up enormously, i think it was the electric bill i messed up with.

12p per kWh would be about right for your electricity if at standard and not E7 rates, but not for your gas!
Have your DD's continued to go out since the last billing?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • Meter readings seem correct as the number of units billed correspond to the number from previous meter reading to this one. The electricity seemed about what I expected, just the actual charge for the gas seems wrong. D.D s going out no problem, as I said I am £234 in credit before this reading. Will have to take time out of work to phone. Often dont get a break! will update when I have an answer.

The key would seem to be the meter readings - And as this is the first Gas reading to SP since you swapped the gas supply from Atlantic, the Start Reading on SP's bill should be the same as the End Reading on Atlantics FINAL BILL -
    Is it ?
  • Hi Dogshome
Yes, the meter reading is exactly the same as on last suppliers bill. (also credit £114) Rang Scottish Power today and their computers are all down, they cannot look at any accounts ...said they will ring me tomorrow. Hospital not happy about me having mobile on at work but this is worrying. They did agree that the rate debited sounds like the electric rat. But the usage seems ok at 128 units for three months...just the price seems wrong! Will let you know!

I guess you don't have a copy of SP's prices for the tariff you are on

Visit 'switchwithwhich' and put in your numbers as though you were looking to Switch - The name of the tariff you are on is on the Gas bill you have, so click on this when you have to enter your tariff - On the final page that shows all the suppliers prices, there is an icon 'Compare tariffs' on each supliers price panel

Hit this on any supplier and it will bring up the fine detail of that suppliers tariff, directly alongside the fine detail of your SP tariff.
  • Gettinbg really annoyed with scottish power! They rang me at work and I asked them to call back in my lunch hour. They didnt. Rang at 6.30pm left work early to get them before the lines closed...they put you through all the options then say their customer advisors are too busy to answer , ring back later and cut off! Tried three times with no luck! Great customer service
