Yes you wont get paid for it but you would be doing something and surely it could fit around the nursery.

I was thinking of helping out a race team in the pits at mallory park, but while this is experience in a different side of the motor trade and would look good on my CV possibly even get me a job for a competitive team. I would still be working on vehicles and not commiting career suicide by working in a shop,
the Jobcentre says noooooo as its would be classed as unpaid work and I would lose my benefits to the amount I would have erned. I only get NI credits so not sure how that would work

but as I only get NI credits if I could find another way of getting these credits I would defiantly take a trip to mallory park would also put my name down marshaling and get to see races for free. This would be better for me even I if dont go the the track as I feel the jobcentre are holding me back as looking for a job is now a chore and not something you do to find a job.

You could always do that OP but be prepared to stop it if a job offer comes up. As long as you still kept to the agreement you signed eg looking for jobs, going to the JC on the relevant day.
