moorcroft debt recovery ltd

A couple of weeks ago a letter arrived through the post. I tend not to look at names on post before I open it, so I open it. Its moorcroft debt recovery ltd wanting payment for a debt, in a name that is not mine, for a person that has, as far as I know, never lived here. The postcode is a commercial area across the road, and the street name is slightly incorrect.
I phone moorcroft up, at my expense, to tell them this. They assure me everything is ok, and they're stop sending the stuff here.
Guess what, another letter from moorcroft debt recovery ltd, currently unopened, but for the same person that it was for last time.
Whats the next step I can do, as I basically do not want debt collectors at my door chasing my address for a debt that has never existed here.

Just got off the phone to them. First person I spoke to was called mohammed, who was really aggressive, second was a manager called nichola scott, whom I beleive will not do anything about this, even though she said she would.
They're currently in breach of data protection (inaccurate data and failure to correct data when requested)
Companies like these are scum, so I look forward to complaining to the Information Commissioner about them.0 -

Put back in the post marked not at this address.
Then write to them requesting that no more letters come to your address for X person and if any more letters do come you will passing them on to your soloicitor who will be contacting them about their harrasment.Baby Ice arrived 17th April 2011. Tired.com! :j0 -

royal mail must deliver items to the address, not the name. Due to the fact the postcode is incorrect (and the address is slightly wrong) I've sent a complaint to RM anyways.0 -
Shred it (unopened) and put it in an envelope with their address on it and post it back to them. Do not put a stamp on the envelope then they will have to pay when it arrives.
Also, use a big envelope so that it costs them more!!0 -

How will that solve the problem?
Issues such as this need sorting or you will find the baliffs knocking on the door.
I would send the unopened letter back to them with a covering letter explaining everything.0 -

If you heard the tone of the first person I spoke to this morning, I don't think you would beleive that would actually work. To them, I am actually in the wrong and am obviously lying.
I'll send them a nice little "cease and desist" letter, make a formal complaint to the Information Commissioner about them not keeping there records accurate (and then possibly the CSA just to annoy them).
Only thing balliffs will do is try to gain entry, which will be refused and the police will be called, increasing the debt that this person owed, which I don't think will ever be recovered anyways.
This is a farce, as any debtor can give any address, which leaves me, the innocent victim, picking up the pieces. Moorcroft obviously think they're above the law, unfortunately for them, they've already breached it in regards to data protection.0 -
i've got a similar situation too, apart from its the previous owner of the house, its been going on for a year now, and i've rung about 4 times and each time they say oh sorry, we'll stop the letters coming to you, yesterday another one turned up! i'm going to call my solicitors to find out the previous owners address and pass it on to them.

Am trying to get NTL (Virgin) to deal with this. So far have had 2 people put the phone down on me, one person who was sympathetic but couldn't help, and their computer system is now down.
Why do I bother.
Finally got through to someone called 'helen', although actually tracing them at a later date to complain would be a total waste of time as Helen isn't really an identifier. She said she would contact moorcroft to get it changed. She also said the address was changed, what address, and when it was changed she wouldn't say, as she hide behind a non-existant clause in the data protection act.0 -
Never communicate by telephone. Everything in writing, sent by Recorded Delivery. Keep copies.
Inform them of the basic details - no knowledge, no debt, no such person at that address."Never underestimate the mindless force of a government bureaucracyseeking to expand its power, dominion and budget"Jay Stanley, American Civil Liberties Union.0
