Part of the Furniture 1,000 Posts Name Dropper I've been Money Tipped!
I bouight an Autograph jacket Size 14 on Ebay BNWT. I cant get it on although I always buy and wear M & S size 14. It is a stretchy fabric and therefore comes up very small. I have therefore sold it on and have mentioned this in the description otherwise it would be like your experience and quite misleading. HTH

A seller usually knows if something is standard size or not.

I always mention the original size and state more like a 20 etc. Then i add the mausurements.

Online retailers would save a FORTUNE if they icluded measurements - as sizes vary so much.

Depends if the seller i a commercial seller or just someone clearing out the stuff that no longer fits, doesn't like any more etc.

I don't sell much, as we tend to use everything to death, but when I do, I never include measurements, just take the sizes off the label, and would only mention a discrepancy in sizing if I felt there was one.

Presumably this seller didn't feel there was one, and TBH, I think you just have to grin and bear it, it doesn't sound like the seller was at fault here, unless she works in the sector or is a shopaholic on an epic scale, who's to say what's standard?
I ave a dodgy H, so sometimes I will sound dead common, on occasion dead stupid and rarely, pig ignorant. Sometimes I may be these things, but I will always blame it on my dodgy H.

Sorry, I'm a bit of a grumble weed today, no offence intended ... well it might be, but I'll be sorry.

Quite the opposite - a private seller is presumably selling their own stuff - so surely should know what a standard 18 is?

I'd be more inclined to measure old clothes anyway - in case they have stretched or shrunk in the wash. Probably why it no-longer fits :-)
  • You should have asked for measurements, I never buy clothes from eBay without checking the measurements. When you sell it on don't just mention that it's a generous 18, give the measurements too. You'll probably find that it fetches a much better price that way and will avoid a buyer in the same situation you find yourself in now.

When I sold some motorcycle gear the buyer asked for all sorts of measurements from me before he committed to a bid.
It seems to me that when you buy clothing and shoes on Ebay there is always going to be the risk that the item will not fit. Its a chance that you take if you have not asked for all the relevant measurements.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.
