Wrongly described coat?

Hi all
I recently bought a coat size 18 and labelled thus. However, it is a really generous 18, I would say more like a 22 ! The seller has stated no returns and when I told her about the larger sizing and asked for a refund she refused saying an 18 is an 18. I feel she should have mentioned something in her ad as most sellers will do. I have noticed this week she has listed several items with the words Generous in her titles which she has not done before  What are my options? I am quite angry as the coat was expensive. TIA Spring.

Is it a brand who's sizing you know
Did you ask for measurements.
Is she a business or private seller
Some clothing comes big, my wardrobe ranges from an 8-14
You could try a SNAD dispute with PayPal but you would have to send it back tracked when they tell you to.0 -
Hi, the measurements were not included in the ad only the length. The brand name is well known and I have never been aware that it is an over generous size. The seller is private who seems to just sell her own clothes as they are mainly all 18s.Moneysaving? - I cant stop spending because of this site!0

If the coat is labelled as an 18 trom a mainstream supplier then that is what the selller has provided.
You say that the seller mainly sells her own clothes - size 18 so I can't see any deception here.
The lesson is to ask for measurements if the seller does not provide them - not all do.
Maybe you are just smaller than an 18 in this brand (great!).
If the coat is totally unsuitable maybe you could sell it on.0 -
Are you sure it is a UK sizing? Coming in about 2 sizes too large sounds like US sizing to me.But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,Had the whole of their cash in his care.

The coat is a Jasper Conran by Debenhams so I am sure this is UK sizing. I am just a bit peeved because I feel the seller was aware the coat was much too large for her hence why she was selling it :mad:Moneysaving? - I cant stop spending because of this site!0

But you can't know or prove that, she might have huge boobs, or wide shoulders or always wore it with a big jumper under or...
I do appreciate it's annoying but there's no such thing as standard measurements in clothing, and it's the risk you run if you buy 2nd hand online (been there, done that, got the dress - size 26 label but barely fits a 16)!
I think the only option is to sell it on yourself and chalk it up to experience, she hasn't done anything wrong, no deliberate deception, no mis-description, no wrong item sent.A waist is a terrible thing to mind.0 -

But isnt it a deception that she is an 18, was aware it was much too big for her and failed to mention it? Anyway Ill just resell it making buyers aware of the vastly over generous size !Moneysaving? - I cant stop spending because of this site!0 -
No it isnt a deception. Just because 2 people are size 18 does not mean that an item will fit both, because bodyshape, height ect will be different.springchicken wrote: »But isnt it a deception that she is an 18, was aware it was much too big for her and failed to mention it? Sorry but the moral of the story here is if you are going to buy secondhand clothing you have to ask for measurements if they are not provided.
The seller has listed what it says on the label they have done nothing wrong..I think it unfair to blame the seller.0 -
She might never have worn it or tried it on, could have been given to her and not to her taste for all anyone knows. The seller has done nothing wrong imo.0

I'm sorry but if it was listed as an 18 and labelled an 18 then its an 18, regardless of whether or not its not if you get what I mean. The seller sold something and listed it correctly and it is not the sellers fault in any way shape or form

I am afraid that this has to be one of those cases where you learn your lesson the hard way - next time ask the seller to measure precisely. To try to open a SNAD would be out of line. Take the hit, resell if you're that way inclined but don't balme the seller. Hopefully you'll get your money back and who knows - if you provide precise measurements maybe you may make a few pennies in an ideal world.0
