say it quietly - £19.99- but it was my birthday!
You can also get extra inner containers so you can store it in the fridge and start the next batch before the last one is used up
I also have the same yoghurt maker - thinking it would save me money - the very first batch i made was relatively successful in terms of consistency but was made with UHT soya and tasted of nothing. Since then i've tried goat and cow UHT and pasteurised and come up with nothing which resembled anything like yoghurt - I have tried warming the milk in the microwave (although this wasn't in the instructions) and I've added milk powdere but this just make the yoghurt come out with a really bizarre almost rubbery texture... I'm desperate to make it work so please can someone give me foolproof instructions (I'm worried that I might be doing something fundamentally wrong as the actual instructions were lost during my house move..)
Any help you can offer is massively appreciated!0 -
I seem to get through a lot of yoghurt, especially the Greek Style natural ones, and wondered if it would be more economical in the long term to make my own?
Does anyone else do this? Any tips on how to do it too.
Many thanks:j Go on, shake your money maker! :j0 -
Ooh yes, there's a lot of yogurt making around here! There's a long merged thread that I'm sure your post will be added to. Meanwhile, all you need is a container and a warm place. A yogurt maker provides these but I've used a casserole dish in an airing cupboard and others use a flask.
We only like greek style so I make two lots and then put a sieve over my Kenwood bowl, line it with muslin or a clean tea towel and pour the yogurt in. After a couple of hours the tea towel is full of yogurt and the bowl is full of whey. If you tip the teatowel the yogurt falls away from it because it's so thick.
Definitely worth doing if you use a lot.0 -
Thanks, very helpful.
I searched this board but didn't find any other threads on homemade yoghurt, it's all in the search term I suppose!
I don't have an airing cupboard or so finding a warm space might be a little tricky. As I don't have a flask either I might need to buy a machine, any recommendations on where to look?:j Go on, shake your money maker! :j0 -

hi, made some yoghurt last night the first time i hat tried ,
its a lakeland electric one and it said you could use evaporated milk so i had a go i diluted it a full can milk and a full can of water ,used Greek style yoghurt as my starter.
it turned out great very thick and creamy and not too sharp and cost 50p for a litre and you would not know it was made from evaporated milk0 -
Hi All ...
I have had an Easi-yo for about a year now and make about a litre of plain yogurt per week using ...
1 litre Semi-skimmed UHT milk
1 dollop of yogurt from the last batch
1 Tablespoon Skimmed milk powder
This turns out great but it is not sweet enough for the children ... (How much for de children?) ... and i wish to cut out all the shop bought yoghurts we get and make my own sweet ones ...
I could use pureed fruit (when we have to going spare) and sugar etc ... but could anyone let me know ... to make a simply fruit flavour 'smooth' kids yoghurt ... could I add a little milkshake mix to the batch ... or even a spoon or two of Angel Delight mix ... ?
