It needs to be fairly accurate within a couple of degrees. I'd get a thermometer.:footie:

I made my first yoghurt overnight and it's brilliant. Like you I was hoping to avoid using a special thermometer but after reading a few sites decided it would be best to get one. The general consensus seemed to be that you could probably judge the right temp if you'd been doing it for a while but otherwise it would be difficult, and I'm assuming the milk temp needs to be 46'C otherwise it will kill off the live cultures in the yoghurt you are using. I didn't really want to risk it going wrong so invested in a food thermometer seeing as I intend to make all our yoghurt from now :-):heartpulsSpoiling my two baby girls with love - it's free and it's fun!:heartpuls
I'm not very good at succinct. Why say something in 10 words when 100 will do?

I made my yogurt yesterday and this morning, I have a lovely thick, set yogurt in my thermos flask.:T
thanks to all for your help.
I used:
400 ml Tesco whole milk
2 tbs tesco greek yogurt as a starter
2 tbs tesco value skimmed milk powder
plus, 1 finger to test for temperatures.
All kept warm in front of stove, in wide necked themos flask.
Deeeeeeelighted!
THANK YOU0
