Shortie- Forget your wallet for the whole weekend!!!

If you need food for the journey, can you not get the kids involved in making some bits for the trip. Ask them what sandwiches they want, maybe some cakes.

P.S You're not mean, I fed my BF savoury rice from Dec 06....!!!(Last weekend LOL)
But he doesnt need to know that!

    LOL CAFCGirl....

Yes, you're right about getting little man involved in the food prep - he loves it normally so it should be enough of a boost, especially if he takes it in his own bag. As long as I can keep the interest when we're sitting in the services smelling KFC :o I think DH will be the one that will need more convincing!

The wallet idea would be a good one judging my today... don't think everyone else would be impresses with me though all weekend :rotfl:

I have to admit that I am doing fantastically this week (so far!!). Not spending anything on tea/coffee during the day - although I feel like my whole body is pining for it! Packed lunches all the way. Also doing the 'live off your cupboards' trick... not been so bad so far, but tough times ahead - x2 tins vegetable soup...

Had (!) to spend 65p yesterday to get change from my 10. Managed to get a 65p bargain in Tesco; Tesco Finest egg fried rice - hubba hubba!!

Oooh, look at us all doing so well! I bought phone credit today but that's budgeted for so that's fine. Bought it in Boots to get the point and didn't buy any other Boots loveliness, so yay for me :T :T

Hmmm..... thinking weekend tactics - anyone got some tips to pass on please?

So, we're travelling by car from London to 'near Cardiff' (petrol budgetted for elsewhere). We usually stop at the services for lunch but I have DH's agreement on eating before we leave. But what about when we get there - should we just have a 'treat' of a couple of cans of drink, or take a thermos flask...

And on the return journey we normally have eated just before we go, but if ot, should I brave ASDAs with as little money as poss just to buy rolls and filling?

I'm in need of *tactics* :rotfl:

Well it worked so here's another go..
I think you have it sussed.. picnics - flasks - cool bag etc.
Time journeys.. eat beforehand and have exciting 'cheap' things to eat at hand - 'cos you will still have to stop to go to the toilet!!

If you get really stuck the newsagent shop places at the services are a little cheaper than the cafes and the truck stop sides are cheaper still, but still not MSE. Get the in laws on side to provide your return picnic or at least take a knife, kitchen roll etc etc if you do have to do the asda dash. But remember no matter how much of a bargain if not necessary it is wasted money... tell lies or feign illness if you have to!!

Thanks Pippo. That's a good point about the cafe/shop thing.... I'm sure I've got some saved empty bottles that I could fill with Squash....

and maybe if I smile swetly on Sunday I can make sadnwiches on my return. Actually, I know she'd be happy for me to make stuff to go back back with.

.... anyway I feel I deserve it now as OH phoned her this evening after she send a pack of sunflower seeds up for DS and added a note saying 'see you Wednesday'...... ........ ........ .........

They're up this way for a friends retirement on Thursday night. Turns out they are coming down tomorrow and will be letting themselves into ours tomorrow lunchtime, waiting for us to get back from work and staying for dinner

I normally really wouldn't mind, but a bit more notice would have been nice! So we've had a frantic 2 hrs doing the tidying I was going to do Friday morning before we left. Ho hum

    Hi Shortie,
Oooh - like you I require notice!!

That sad(?) thing is that we are now in laws & try to remember that!! even though I have to have at least a couple of days notice before DDil visists and she is quite nice really.

So now you have to provide dinner??

    Yup dinner to be provided.

Gosh I sounded awful last night rereading my post! I was soooo tired and ratty by then :o

You know I really don't mind them coming over at all or being here when we're still in work, I think I was more annoyed at the short notice and presumption we'd be organised enough to get dinner sorted for more people overnight when we both work full time  . It'll be nice when dinner's cooked and we can settle though.

Aiming at a NSD today again (to save my precious tenner for the weekend). Told DH last night that I'm doing this challenge and he's in full support so no sabbotage (sp) there I hope, and hopefully it'll slowly rub off onto him too,

Also went through my 'while on Maternity leave' budget last night and showed him... hmmm a tad scary but managable. But it has given me a boot in the right direction on this challenge

Today at work will be thermos flask tea, MORE leftover BBQ pasta, a kitkat (yup... found these were out of date like the crisps the other night :rotfl: ), some yummy muslie crunch ryvita that were delievered by a kind Mr T last night, and I'll remember some fruit today :o

Hope everyone has a good day (challenge and otherwise) today :D
